"Sir," Uhura said, standing at attention as she appeared in the doorway of Spock's office, looking over reports from Starfleet as well as assignments from his students.

He raised his head and rose to his feet, assuming his standard position with hands folded neatly away behind his back. "At ease, Ensign Uhura," he said, releasing her to relax her posture, "To what, precisely, do I owe your unexpected visit. I trust it has nothing to do with your course work. You have exhibited your skills quite impeccably thus far."

Uhura smiled softly and shook her head. "No, nothing to do with the class. Thank you, Spo- Sir," she quickly corrected herself.

Spock's face remained neutral at the slip, but he said, "There is no need for formalities, if this matter is not to do with your classes."

Uhura let another smile draw her lips back. "Of course, Spock. I was looking into some old Vulcan transmissions, stored In the data banks for reference materials, earlier today, and I came across some words that I was unfamiliar with, and I seem to be unable to find them in any database anywhere. I was wondering if you might sate my curiosity?" Spock did not actually respond, but merely nodded for the woman before him to continue.

"It was in discussing the death of some Vulcan, a transmission from some off worlders to Vulcan, I believe. I came across 'Pon Farr' and 'plak tow' Now, I know that 'plak' is blood and 'row' is fever, but I have no idea what 'blood fever' actually is. And I know that 'pon' has to do with time, so I'm assuming it is the period of something, perhaps the duration of whatever this 'blood fever' is...?" she said, then trailed off at the look on the half-Vulcan's face. "Spock?"

Spock's face looked a shade whiter than usual, upon hearing these words spoken by a non-Vulcan and non-Doctor. "These words are of no concern to you, Nyota. It is a matter of... discretion, amongst Vulcans, and you should not have ever even heard these words. Please, I ask of you, pursue this no further," he said, then, turning towards his desk again, gave her a short dismissal.

O... M.... G!! It took me SO long to fix this stupid fic. I was getting so fed up with it that I considered deleting it, even. I apologize to everyone that the big block of words caused trouble for. I wrote it correctly, but my computer is stupid -grumblegrumble-
