You told me you couldn't remember what it was like,
To have your fears assuaged and your mind put to ease,
To be held in the night, to have someone to keep the darkness out,
To know that there was someone out there who loved you.
-
I looked deep in your eyes as you told me,
That you couldn't keep this going between us,
That you weren't what I needed in my life,
That you couldn't offer all that you wanted me to have.
-
I reached out and held your arm as you turned from me
From the friendship we had slowly built up
From the person who needed you to make them feel complete
From the person who would die for you
-
I held you tight to me and whispered gently to you,
That I would be there for you, to guide you,
That I would hold you in the shadows of the night,
That I would never in my life stop loving you.
