So, I decided to turn some of my speculations for the second half of season four into one-shots, of which this one is the first. Updates will be sporadic since other stories have a priority over this one, but I'm sure there'll be at least one more one-shot. After that, it's anyone's guess. Anyway, I hope you'll like this!

Charlie had been cut off from the other Legends.
Honestly, she should have paid more attention to the layout of the Time Bureau headquarters once they descended into the lower and more classified levels. Ava had already warned them it's like a maze down there. One wrong turn and you lose your way. Stay close to me, she had told the Legends. Charlie had trailed behind the group, looking at all the tags placed next to the doors. This was where they had secretly kept the Fugitives. This was their first big mistake.
She had slowed down even more to look inside the different cells as well. Kaupe, Baba Yaga, Chupacabra, Nora Darhk. Every cell had different and species-specific environments within the force fields. Their caretaker must have decided to treat them as humanely as possible and Charlie appreciated it.
That was how she had lost the Legends. They were looking for Nate, Mona, Gary and other employees that seemed to have mysteriously disappeared. The Fugitives were gone as well, which deeply worried Charlie. This had to be the work of Neron – that was one hell of a creepy demon.
At least she could search them on her own now. She was not completely shut off from the Legends as long as she had that comm device in her ear, that transmitted only static now.
"Hello, Charlie."
As soon as the words were spoken, the lights flickered. A couple of seconds ago, nobody had been behind her – she had just checked it. Despite her standing in the middle of a long hallway, someone managed to sneak up on her. Charlie turned around and a cold shiver ran down her spine.
Neron. Wearing Desmond's face and charming smile. How appalling.
"C'mon, don't be shy," he said after Charlie did not say a word. "I'm not going to have a conversation with myself, do I?"
"Might as well. I've got nothing to say to you," Charlie responded. At least she sounded braver than she felt.
Neron merely chuckled. "Really? I thought you wanted to curse me out for the face I'm wearing." He leaned closer towards her while Charlie took a big step backward. He took the hint but found it amusing rather than trying to remove himself from Charlie's personal space. He straightened his back and finally turned his head to watch the corridor behind her.
"Are you sure you want to stick with the Legends?" while he spoke, his gaze landed on Charlie again.
"I sure as bloody hell won't be joining you," was Charlie's response.
"That's too bad," Neron said as if he meant it. he tilted his head to the right. "You do realize you're still one of us, right?"
Us. Every evil in the world, all the bad that Hell can throw at the planet.
"I'll never be one of you," Charlie spat in his face. she turned around and walked away. She had already allowed herself for too long to let her enemy talk. For all she knew, he was trying to warp her perspective on the Legends – her friends – to try and sway her to his side. That was not going to happen!
"I'm not talking about demons," Neron said. His tone was so authoritative, Charlie stopped walking. That did not mean she had to turn her head around and look at him. the comms were still only broadcasting this static sound – Neron interfered with the channel, making it impossible for her to contact her teammates.
"You're a shapeshifter." A cold hand seemed to grab her heart when she heard that last word. "You should be standing with your kind and everyone you have so viciously persecuted."
While he spoke, he approached again. That comment had thrown her off guard and made her question her morality. A minotaur wasn't her kind and neither was that book. All the Fugitives they did find were only creating chaos and endangering innocent people. Those Fugitives who wanted a new and quiet life had never popped up on their radar.
Then again, in the aberrant timeline she, Zari and Rip had created where they had never met her and John wasn't around, they had been killing every Fugitive they came across. Her presence had changed their mind about those methods. Without her, they would have continued killing innocents. They had even been willing to kill Constantine because he may have been a shapeshifter and if he wasn't, well, his loss.
"But you're not a shapeshifter anymore," Neron continued. He passed her on her right and stared at her with compassion in his eyes. Charlie had to remind herself this may not be genuine. "Need I remind you, John Constantine made it so that you are trapped in that one body. He took away your powers, stripped you naked. He made you human." He spoke about John with such fury, Charlie was surprised the lightbulb above his head did not crack. She could not help but feel anger rise within her.
"What if I told you" Neron continued when he regained his calm attitude, "that I could restore your powers?"
Charlie shook her head. How tempting it may be, no. this was too risky. "You're lying."
"Why would I?" Neron asked. "I'm more powerful that Constantine will ever be. All I need is your consent and you will be able to choose from millions upon millions of faces again. You can be a shapeshifter again. You can be you again. Leave the Legends and explore the world." That compassionate tone snuck into his voice again. If Charlie had not known Neron, she might have been compelled to take the offer.
"What's the catch?" He was still a demon – there had to be a catch. Demons didn't usually do things from the goodness of their hearts; they always wanted something in return.
"Does there need to be one?" Neron chuckled. Was he mocking her? Was he already glad he got her to consider the option because she asked this question? "I'm feeling extremely generous today. There is no catch. All I need is your word to undo the damage John Constantine claimed could not be undone. Choose wisely."
Neron took one step back. He was so certain she was going to take this deal he remained silent and stared at her in anticipation.
Charlie did not know what choice to make. Was she going to turn her back on Neron and subsequently the chance of ever getting her powers back? Or was she going to accept his offer and betray her friends in the process?
Eventually, she made her decision.
