Mulder pushed his way through the trees of the woods that he and
Scully had decided to hike through. They had been through so
much here lately that he had decided to show her what the true
meaning of "a nice trip to the woods" meant.
No aliens, no government conspiracies, no aimless searches for
his sister, no psychics - just him, her and nature. It was an
interesting turn of events.
The only thing X-filey about tonight's tromp through the woods
was that he had picked the night of the full moon to do it on.
He listened to the sound of Scully's rustling through the trees
to get to where he was. Then he walked into a clearing and
stopped.
There was a woman, tall, slender, with waves of black hair
cascading down her back, and she was dancing to her own rhythm
under the light of the full moon. It brought back stories that
he'd heard when he was younger, and some that he'd even told
Samantha himself.
The story of someone walking into a clearing and finding the
Goddess of the Moon dancing under its ghostly light. Caught in
between then and now, all he could do was stare. Just then, she
stopped and turned to look at him.
He heard Scully calling out, "Mulder? Mulder, where are you?"
and he turned to see her walking towards him. Yet, when he
turned back to face the woman he had seen, she was gone.
"Mulder, what's wrong?"
He shook his head slightly, "Nothing, Scully... just the
moonlight playing tricks with my eyes."
"You sound like you've seen a ghost..."
"Nah... not on this trip - I promised you a nice trip to the
woods... and that's what you're gonna get."
She laughed for the first time in a long time as she answered,
"That's a turnaround, Mulder... well then, I guess we should get
going."
"Yeah..." he let her lead, and he just stood there for a moment,
trying to convince himself that he hadn't seen what he thought he
had.
And for a moment, he thought he heard a soft laugh, but then
again, it could have just been something in the woods.
