"What's Rational?"

"It's not rational Booth!" Temperance Brennan's brow was furrowed and she was looking at her partner as if he had sprouted a second head or something.

"Why do you ALWAYS have to point that out!?"

"Well, I'm a scientist Booth – it's what I do!"

Seeley Booth was clutching the steering wheel so hard that his knuckles were starting to turn white. "Wauw a full 10 minutes before you threw that argument at me! – Really Bones it's starting to get old."

"You can't deny facts even if you think you've heard them too many times."

"Ok how about this then? You agree with me that human beings are attracted to other human beings based on a number of different things right?"

Temperance, frowned and looked over at Seeley next to her. Normally he was never bringing up the subject of relationships. "Yes, agree. There a number of elements that will make it possible to have two individuals develop an attraction towards each other."

"And those would be?"

"Well to name a few, shared experiences, hormonal receptors, appearances – "

"HA!" Booth interrupted her list of things "So what you are saying is that looks do play a role?"

"Of course I do – a person will always be more attracted to someone who looks most likely to be a strong breeder."

"Well, so let's say we have two persons who, on the inside, well you know personality wise is exactly the same."

"Booth no two persons are ever the exact same."

"Please Bones just go with me here." Booth looked at his partner. "I'm being hypothetical here. We've practiced this for two years now! Pretend we are working on a case if it helps you any."

"Ok, so what are you trying to say?"

"What I'm trying to say is, we have two persons who are the same as far as personality goes, but one is more attractive than the other. You know looks more like a 'strong breeder' than the other one."

"Ah I think I see where you are going with this."

"I'm just saying it's always about appearances!"

"Booth – you can't use arguments like that to explain why you like the blue M&M's better than the rest!" Temperance Brennan shook her head and tried really hard not to laugh as she saw the look on her partner's face – a pout worthy of his 5 year old son.

Two Hours Later

The day was almost over – well over if you were a regular person working a nine to five job. Doctor Brennan was however not your regular working drone. She had just made her daily trip to the vending machine down the corridor and had gotten the snack she had started treating herself to ever the last couple of years.

Sitting back down behind her desk she tore open the small yellow bag of peanut M&M's and sorted out the blue ones and placed them in the jar she kept in her desk drawer. It wasn't rational – but he liked the blue ones the best – and what he liked he got!
