Believe
Do you believe, now?

Believe

He hated what he did, but he wasn't sad, he didn't hate himself. He never hates himself, because he is perfect, and he needn't hate himself if there is nothing to hate.

But, was he still perfect after this? He had done something he didn't mean to. And now, she's dead. And it was all because of him.

He glanced down at her slit throat and silently wondered what to do.

It had been trap, and he had fallen into it. It was meant to make him falter, enough for his downfall. But it didn't work.

Because he had never faltered in battle.

But now he isn't in a battle, is he allowed to mourn?

If he lets himself, then yes. But does he?

No.

She was always there, from day one. And she is here now.

He didn't need her pity, but that was what she was giving him.

"Leave wench, before you meet the same end."

She was surprised. She had always displayed her emotions freely on her face. Foolish.

She glanced down, staring at her feet. He wondered what she was thinking of, until she opened her mouth to speak.

"I'm sorry." She whispered, and this time, it was his turn to be surprised. He had never imagined her saying those words to him.

But of course, he didn't show it.

He scoffed, and turned to leave, until her voice reached his ears once again.

"I'm sorry that you cannot feel."

Her words shocked him, and he stopped, waiting for her to continue.

"And I'm sorry that you cannot allow yourself to mourn over a little girl that you loved. An innocent little girl that died because of you - another victim under your claws. Rin looked up to you, and I know you love her. I'm sorry that you cannot cry for someone you love."

She raised her head to look at his back, only to see that he had already turned around.

She saw anger flash through his eyes.

"You have no right to say that, wench." He growled with venom dripping from his voice.

"Why not?" She asked defiantly, "am I not telling the truth? Tell me I am lying. Tell me I'm wrong!"

"You are lying." It came out so simply, without any hesitation. "You are wrong. I can feel."

She was confused.

"Then why can't you cry? Why can't you mourn?" She asked, unsure of what his answer might be. "Why can't you show me?"

"Because I don't need to."

And he began to walk away.

"Show me!" She grasped one of his claws. "Show me that you can feel!"

Much to her surprise, he did not pull away. Instead, he turned his head and glanced down at her.

"Show you?" She nodded her head, tears gathering at the corner of her eyes.

He lifted her chin, and stared into her tear-filled eyes.

"Why should I?"

"Because I don't believe you."

He leant down, and gently pressed his warm lips against hers. She felt her own breath hitch, and thought of pulling away, but thought better of it and seeked out the emotions that she had wished for.

It was there. Everything was there. But it didn't feel as good as she thought it would. It was missing something important. Something he was trying to prove.

She pulled away and stared into his eyes.

"Do you believe me now?"

She smiled a sad smile, and released his claws.

"No."
