I don't know where this one came from...short and sad. Reviews are welcome
He had never told her. He thought of himself as a courageous person, somebody who did what needed to be done no matter what the consequences. He had taken many risks, put himself in danger and nearly lost his life on many occasions. He was a coward. He had never told her because he was afraid. He was afraid that she did not feel the same. He was afraid that he was dishonouring the memory of his friend who had died those many years before. A death he might add he had felt responsible for. He had never told her because...because he was a coward.
He should tell her, he should have told her. He remembered all those times when he could have. The breakfasts in the mornings that he had come to love and look forward to. The dinners on occasion. The times they had spent together just talking. She had been there every time he needed her. She had been the one he could talk to. The one who had helped him cope with all his loses in his personal life. She had always been there. He should have told her.
She should have told him. She should have let him know the he meant everything to her. She should have put aside her fear and her doubts and just told him that he was the one. He was the one she loved. She had never done so. Her fear had prevented her from telling the most important person in her life how she felt. Her fear that he did not feel the same way. Her fear that her son would not understand her feelings for the man. She should have told him.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard lay exposed on the hard grey surface of the planet. He was dying. He knew he was dying and his only thought was for her. His regrets and his love.
Beverly Crusher stood aboard the Enterprise watching helplessly as the Captain of the ship lay dying on the planet's surface below. Her only thoughts were her regrets and her love.
"I love you Beverly" he whispered softly as he breathed his last.
