A Plan with Flaws
Draco sat reading the last lines of the long, long letter. These two lines were the only ones that truly mattered.
I'm glad you finally found someone to make you happy. I just wish it could have been me.
Yours always
Pansy
Her script was elegant as she could be too. Sighing, Draco put the letter down on his desk and walked to the window behind his chair.
"So, it's finally done." Draco couldn't help let out his smirk.
Blaise, lounging in the armchair situated opposite Draco's desk, matched Draco's smirk.
"You're parents will hit the roof and then disown you." It was a crazy idea from the start. But Draco despised the idea of being married to Pansy, so Blaise helped him devise a plan.
"They will think this a great tactic to re-establish the Malfoy name. The evil Malfoy's associated with the heroic Weasley family? It's already working to our advantage."
Little public rendezvous with one Ginny Weasley had set tongues a wagging and Pansy running. Ginny would get a reputation of her own whilst rubbing a little salt in Potter's wounds for leaving her. Potter's reasons, however, remained unknown to the former Slytherins.
"There you are, Draco! What's up?" Ginny Weasley came bounding into Draco's study without knocking. Blaise couldn't help but smile at her vivacity.
"Pansy has fallen for it. She's broken the engagement." Draco announced with a devilish smile.
"Oh, thank Merlin!" Ginny beamed.
"It's great, isn't it?" Draco returned her honest smile.
"She's persistent. I'll give her that. But at least this charade won't have to continue much longer."
"Charade?" Draco's smile stiffened, raising Blaise's curiosity.
"I honestly don't know how you two stand all those gala's and balls and things. I'm sick of having to dress up and be on my best behavior at all times." Ginny said, slumping onto Draco's desk.
"I thought you enjoyed our time together?" Draco's eyebrows rose.
"Oh, it was fun for a while. But I do miss hanging out at the Leaky Cauldron with just some friends and family."
Blaise decided to remain quiet during this curious exchange.
"I see." All expression left Draco's face as he replied without emotion. "I'm so glad to have offered you a small amount of amusement."
"Um, yes. Thank you, Draco." Ginny responded a little uncertainly. "I should be off, Luna and I are having lunch. See you two later!" She jumped off the desk and left, almost ignoring Draco.
Blaise couldn't believe his eyes. Did Draco just go for a hug only to be dismissed unknowingly by the little Weasley?
"I didn't think falling for the Weasley was part of your plan." Blaise announced with a raised eyebrow. The only response he received was a growl. A moment's silence and Blaise sighed rather audibly. "I suppose it's time to hatch a new plan to keep Ginny Weasley around?"
"I knew I kept you around for a reason." Draco muttered before storming to the table where the firewhiskey was kept.
