A/N: my first fanfic! please no flames :)
Families are like fudge - mostly sweet with a few nuts. ~Author Unknown
It was one of my mother's crazy ideas. She wanted to mend broken relations, bring everyone together and some more fluff that I was not actually listening to. My dad agreed because, well, he could not find anything wrong with the argument.
"Scorpius is going away to Hogwarts next year; nothing will be the same afterwards."
So that was how it happened. We started planning the Malfoy family Christmas Dinner. It was nothing like a party. I was used to those: uncomfortable dress robes and gelled hair. No this was different; this was a family gathering which included my father's parents, my mother's parents and her sister's family. It was as bad as it got.
My aunt called it a farce, little Astoria pretending everything was going well. That conversation too had ended it in an argument, between my father and my aunt. It was always funny to see them argue, mostly because it ended in mum hexing dad. But this time it ended with:
"See, I told you this would be a good idea." After that, there was no way to back out of the dinner, and my mum took me shopping for new robes. But not dress robes; she had agreed not to force me to wear those.
The event came faster than either my father, or myself, would have hoped for. But we both put on false smiles for my mother's sake and went to wait for the guests. My father's parents came first: My grandfather, Lucius Malfoy, who looked more sour than usual, and my grandmother, Narcissa Malfoy, who forced a smile, hugged my mother, gave me a present, and ignored my father completely. Obviously he had done something to make them come.
For thirty minutes we waited as my grandfather gave me a long lecture about 'when he was my age'. I didn't actually listen though and for that reason I actually heard the door open again and excusing myself, I went to greet Aunt Daphne and Uncle Blaise. The two had brought with them Augustus, the cousin who I truly despised. All were looking incredibly annoyed until my mother arrived in the doorway and Aunt Daphne smiled, kind of, and greeted my mother with a cordial "Hello Tori." Uncle Blaise however did not smile, which was probably for the better. It would have been fake anyway.
Not long after, my maternal grandparents made their appearance - much to the chagrin of my father and his parents. Grandfather Lucius made a snide remark about timeliness while my mother's father - Herbert Greengrass - responded with one about loyalties. Naturally, there was an explosion and my grandfather Lucius went on a rant about the glory days - "The Death Eater Days" - and other mentions of blood-traitors, (which is what he considers my maternal grandparents though they're not really very cordial at all when it comes to Muggle-borns) leaving my dad to excuse himself under ludicrous claims of a headache.
Eventually, my mother got them to calm down but failed in getting my father to return, (she said his headache was troubling him greatly - a lie) and we all went to the table to get ready for the meal. Though I can't say it was smooth, the end result did make my mother smile - Lucius unable to speak from a curse delivered from none other than his dear wife, Narcissa. Out of fear, no one dared break it.
Fin.
A/N: I know the ending's a bit rushed. Please review :)
