A/N: So anyways been awhile since I posted anything so I'm uploading two tonight one that's bit of Sandle, and this one, maybe even a third the next chapter in The Real Life, got it done. Not much to explain with this one. Did think of forever as to what to call this finally it came to me. It may be all a little rushed but I think it's been building for a time now - what am i saying? Happy reading and you know I like reviews. I own nothing by the way.
The air was getting crisper, the sunsets were coming earlier and the leaves finally had started to change and fall to the ground, as the leaves began to fall one thing became clear, he was seeing his wife less and less in the last few weeks.
With her law firm opening precisely over two weeks ago, he had seen her all of fifteen minutes in the last four days, she was leaving as he was coming, and vice versa. Not to mention all the business trips it was all building up to a dangerous height that he was afraid of when it came tumbling down around him.
Pacing around the living room floor he glanced at the clock again, it was nearing the time for him to leave and they needed to talk, he couldn't live like this, it felt like he was in his bachelor days where he came home to no one and saw a girlfriend in passing.
"Hey hun don't you have to leave for work?" Katie asked coming in through the doorway, depositing her keys by his, she removed her shoes and put the briefcase down.
"I think we need to talk" Katie looked at him with what he could only guess as one of her court faces.
"Can't it wait, I finally have a free minute and want to feel up my husband" she wrapped her arms around him, slipping her hands into his back pockets, for the moment he felt the talk could wait as he too embraced her.
"So everything is going great, I even got a few offers of people who want to buy in" she let go walking into the kitchen grabbing a glass of orange juice.
"That of course would take the load off of me, but in the other sense how much do I let them buy in I mean what do I do? Do I say pay me this much for this percentage and yet I still want to be the main owner and blah blah blah"
"That's great, can we talk now?"
"Of right of course, what did you want to talk about?"
"I want you to spend more time home, I never see you anymore"
"How can you ask me that?" she asked offended "Have I ever once ask you to move to the lab so you don't get shot at, have a ever asked you to cut down on your hours? Have I?" she nearly shouted
"I'm tired of pretending that I'm not married, you're never home, I never see you and I'm sick of it!"
"I'm the only one there is, it's not my fault everyone wants me to be their lawyer" she snapped back
"You're a freaking divorce lawyer, it's not like everyone needs a divorce lawyer"
"Well apparently they do"
"Maybe you're covering up something that you don't' want me to know about"
"What are you suggesting?"
"I don't know maybe I'm not the only one you're sleeping with" the loud smack of skin hitting skin echoed throughout the house as both occupants remained silent.
"How dare you accuse me of cheating!" she strode past him walking towards their bedroom, he followed her hell bent on giving her the last word.
"Well if the shoe fits" she stopped her task of packing clothes and simply looked at him, wondering what the hell had happened they were happy once upon a time ago.
"What are you doing?" Nick finally releasing she was packing
"I'm going out of town"
"Where?"
"Well I would tell you but you may think I'm cheating"
"Dammit Katie"
"What?!"
"How did it come this?"
"I think we need to take a break; it's only getting worse"
"What's getting worse? You're never home!"
"I'll come get my stuff when I get back" with that she grabbed her bag and left the house, slamming the door on her way out.
This was not how he thought the conversation would go.
