Rin sat in Kaede's hut in a kneeling position, with her hands on her lap. She could hear her Lord (old Lord, she corrected herself silently.) and her mistress, and of course, her teacher.
She had already been visited by her friends. Her eyes travelled down to the mountain of gifts beside her. Kagome had given her a new kimono, a lovely blue kimono with white waves around the hem.
"I got this from my mother, Rin-chan," Kagome had told her s she laid the silky material into her arms, "I want you to have it. Take it as a gift to remember me by if you leave with Sessomaru-nii-san."
Rin knew she only added the 'nii-san' to annoy her hanyou husband.
Inuyasha had given her a replica o the Shikon no Tama, and he had smiled gently at the little girl. "I will always remember how Sesshomaru came to like a human, more so, a human child."
Sango, Miroku and their three children had also visited her. The six and the eight-year old children had given her a drawing of them and Rin, holding hands softly. Sango had given her a few handmade arrows, and Miroku gave her a necklace.
Lady Kaede had given her a handmade bow to go with her arrows. "In order to protect yourself if you wish to travel alone," She'd told her.
As she heard the two most important people in her life walk closer to her, she quickly stood up. When she saw her mistress and her old master, she bowed respectfully.
"No need to bow, Rin-chan." Kaede smiled. The group sat down, with Rin helping her mistress down.
Sesshomaru's eyes locked on to the figure of that of his old ward. She had grown so much since her younger days. Her black hair now reached her lower back, her skin tone had darkened slightly. However, when she saw her old Lord, her carer, her toothy grin had re-appeared.
He would never tell her how happy he was to so her toothy grin, to hear her gentle voice. The years away from the girl had been so different. After slaying demons, he had to bite his tongue as to not tell Rin to stop screaming. He had to bite his tongue as not to say to Jaken, "Do what you like."
He was torn away from his thoughts as he heard Kaede ask the question that would change his life forever.
"Rin-chan, would you like to stay here or go with Sesshomaru?"
He sighed, almost guessing his answer. Of course she wanted to stay in the village. They hadn't left her with a frog-demon and a two-headed dragon. They hadn't let her down. If only he had seen the signs of the abuse the villagers gave her...He would've taken her away sooner. She would've been saved. She wouldn't have died.
"I want to go with Sesshomaru-sama."
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
"Sesshomaru-sama?"
Sesshomaru looked down at his daughter, his Rin. His little girl. They were walking out of the village, ready to begin their journey together again. And no one would take his little girl this time. Before he knew what he was doing, he wrapped an arm around her and pulled her closer to him, kissing her head softly.
"I've missed you, my pup."
