Destruction

In a hovercraft, Katniss Everdeen's mind is consumed by the thought of a kind, blue-eyed boy, and the thought that her actions have resulted in his capture.

His destruction.

In District 12, fire, that hungry, insatiable beast, devours the homes of panicked, screaming people.

A boy, Gale, who has waited for this moment for who knows how long, runs, as panicked as the rest, as his world is destroyed.

In a little room in District 13 a small group is convened around an old T.V. and watches the flames. Abruptly, the image changes, and President Snow's flabby, toad-like face consumes the screen. His unnaturally large lips are now narrowed into a grim line.

"People of Panem, you are seeing District 12, which has decided, decided, I repeat, to follow in the footsteps of District 13. They have decided to join these so-called "rebels" and fight. But what are they fighting? I shall tell you. They are fighting Panem, and the peace of Panem, and the security that we, the Capitol, have given you. They are bent on destroying your happiness, people of Panem, just as the people of District 13 fought against your peace. They now face the consequences. And so District 12 has been destroyed."

The screen switches just as suddenly back to District 12, zooming in on a figure engulfed in flames. A man of the group switches off the television.

"Have they all been killed?" He speaks to a small, hunched over man sitting at the back. He is very old, over eighty, and one of the few remaining people who saw first-hand the "destruction" of District 13. He shakes his head slowly.

"No. A human cannot destroy humanity. Our will to survive too strong. Soon, survivors will be arriving."

The rest of the group nods silently before rising and quietly filing out of the room, leaving the old man behind. He turns the T.V. back on and stares emptily at the flames; soon he sees instead the bombing of his District, still clear in his mind.

Snow had destroyed his home, his family, his life. And now, he had brought about the destruction of another District.

Soon, he would pay.
