I am completely aware of how many Loki fics there are. This story was bugging me, so I decided to add to that lovely collection. Sorry
I own nothing of Marvel.
Loki stared up at his father, not believing the words that were coming out of Odin's mouth. "Laufey's son?" he asked, almost frantically. How was that possible? He was an Asgardian, wasn't he?
"Yes," Odin replied solemnly, his face completely blank of emotion.
"Why? Why me?" Loki couldn't believe it. He wouldn't. How could Odin do this to him? Bring a lost, lonely baby home to be a part of the family and, as soon as something bad happened, throw it out to the wolves. How? Why?
"You were an innocent child. There had been too much death that day. I couldn't add another child to the mountain of bodies."
Tears welled up in Loki's eyes. "You had a purpose. What was it? TELL ME! I need to know. Please, fa... Odin, tell me!" If there was anything he expected, it wasn't this. This was... torture.
"I wanted to unite the two kingdoms, bring about permanent peace through an alliance... through you." The Allfather looked down at his adopted son, begging the boy silently not to immediately reject his idea. "I thought it would work. But those plans no longer matter."
Again, Loki fought back tears of rage, of hurt, of denial. "So I'm just another stolen relic? Locked up until I become useful?"
Odin stood from his throne and glared at his son. "I never said that. Don't twist my words!" This wasn't what he wanted to do. It wasn't how he wanted to tell his son about his past. All the truth though, needed to be out.
"You could have told me the truth from the beginning! Why didn't you? Why did you lie to me? Were you trying to hurt me?" Loki whispered, trying not to let his hurt show. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"No matter who your parents are, you are my son. I didn't want to hurt you... I only wanted to protect you from the truth." The pain of this conversation was getting the better of Odin and he sank back onto his throne. "You are my son."
"What truth? That I... I... I am the monster parents tell their children about at night? That I am an abomination? That I am not your son? That you stole me from home?" Loki's control snapped and he shouted the last few words, his anger getting the better of him. "That I am a Frost Giant?"
Clearly distraught, Odin shouted a denial. "No! No! I didn't want to hurt you! I didn't want to make you an outcast. This isn't what I wanted!"
"Well, Odin, your plan failed. Not only did you hurt me, you made me an outcast. This is why you always favored Thor over me. You couldn't stand the idea of a Frost Giant on the throne. No matter how much you claimed to love me, you couldn't let a Frost Giant sit on the throne. Isn't that right, Father?" A fragile silence hung in the air for a moment before Loki glanced at his... the Allfather. "Father? Father?"
The king lay prone on the ground, collapsed in shock and grief.
"Guards? Guards? Someone! Please! Anyone! Help!" Loki's voice cracked in despair as he stared at the man he thought was his father laying on the ground. "Father?"
