A Hero's Death
***
Gandalf stood upon the hill,
Breathless in his shirt of twill,
As he gazed upon the scene below:
The waiter standing in the snow;
Gandalf had forgotten to pay his bill
***
Swords were drawn, knives in hand
Both men, with courage, took a stand
Gandalf cocked his sword to hack
Stabbing Gimli in the back
Gimli faltered unable to withstand
***
The waiter waited to strike a blow
Then marched forward through the snow
Legolas behind him drew his bow
But Gandalf failed to stop the arrow
The waiter had tripped and fallen low.
***
Frodo stepped forward to join the fight,
He meant to avenge his friends with might,
The waiter shouted that if not paid,
The innkeeper would have to fire the maid,
Frodo stopped dead thinking 'this is not right.'
***
The waiter saw his chance and attacked,
Frodo's brains were scrambled and head was cracked,
Legolas shot again with care his bow,
But failed to end this evil row.
The waiter into a hollow tree had backed.
***
Legolas, our sole surviving hero, fell for a trick,
The waiter asking for a truce made him sick,
When the proffered wine he drank
Fell ill and to the ground he sank.
The poisoned wine turned him into a stick.
***
The waiter rifled their purses for change,
But soon was chased by a dog with mange.
He returned to the inn without as much as a grin,
His boss was not amused and in the din
Game him a drink that made him strange.
***
He died that night without a friend,
His battle wounds no time to mend,
Aragorn his brothers had defended,
And taking off his disguise quite offended
Had himself the waiter to hell commanded.
Charm and Strange: Please keep in mind that I wrote this when I was about 11, which was a good 8 years ago. Thanks;;;
