I don't own Naruto.

I just wanted something...peaceful...

"I miss the rain."

Sakura's words sunk into the black-hole-like silence of her two teammates. She, Naruto, and Sasuke had been waiting at the bridge for hours for their teacher Kakashi to appear before finally giving up and opting to sit on the riverbank instead. Another hour had passed while they baked in the hot sun. Still, not even a peek of their perverted teacher had been seen.

"I love the sun, don't get me wrong. Calm, peaceful days of blue skies and warm temperatures; they're great. But…"

Naruto was laying to the right of the pink-haired girl with his eyes turned upstream, and Sasuke was to his left. The Uchiha hadn't joined the others in dipping his feet in the water; instead, he sat, his back facing them, yet still with them. The three, ever since they'd become a team, had done this almost instinctively, forming a tight circle, watching each other's backs. Even on the most peaceful days, they couldn't forget what they were.

"Sometimes, you just need the rain."

Unexpectedly, Naruto's voice finished the girl's thought. She glanced at him quickly before letting a small, soft smile cover her face. The three of them, for all that they argued and fought and even betrayed each other, were more than a team. They were the best kind of family, one which was chosen.

"Afterwards, everything feels better, cleaner."

"Hn."

"I guess…the Earth needs a break from the sun every once in a while."

Over time, the spaces between the three grew smaller and smaller, and soon, a small pyramid was formed of drowsing ninja. The shoulders of the other two was the only thing keeping each of them up, as the brightness of the sun was the only thing stopping their eyes from closing completely.

A whole day passed like that, with the three leaning on each other, content with the silence and the clouds that could be seen gathering on the horizon.
