Marriage

"Marriage is just a formality; just more paperwork that says 'Hi, I'm Roy Mustang and I love -insert name here-'. The whole ceremony is just a show of two lovers that think their whole lives are going to change because of the title, Husband and Wife," Roy swiveled his chair. "Because Men, I believe that marriage isn't really a sign of an ultimate commitment of love, for your relationship should already have that. It's just an accessory to what you already have, therefor, unnecessary."

The men looked at each other, all confused. While Lieutenant Hawkeye was out, the topic of marriage suddenly came up, acting as their break from the work they've been doing.

"But Sir, it's tradition. It represents getting settled down, starting a family, and being forever bound to each other." Fuery replied when no one else did.

"Besides," Breda added. "It's also like a right of passage to most women, isn't it? Showing off the ring, picking out a dress, walking down the isle with her father-"

"What if she doesn't have a father?" Roy cut in.

Breda sighed, knowing who he was referencing. "Then she'll walk down with someone else. The point is, marriage is like a milestone to all adults."

"Yeah," Falman agreed. "It's also a chance to celebrate your love for one another with your friends and family."

"And why do they need to be apart of it? It's my personal relationship, after all."

Falman didn't have an answer.

"The point is, getting married is a milestone to most adults." Breda said, changing the subject.

"Aha! You said most that time!" Roy said, standing up pointing.

Breda rolled his eyes. "That's because you are the one exception, Boss." he mumbled.

Roy ignored him and leaned back on his chair, folding his arms behind his head. "Now Men, let me ask you this: isn't all that matters is that you get to see your loved one at the end of the day? That despite the horrible days yet to come, there will always be a lovely young woman welcoming you home with a smile?"

"Sure, if Havoc can find someone like that." Breda snickered "Ouch!" Breda cried, rubbing the new bump on his head from the silent Havoc sitting next to him.

"That's not very funny, Breda." Fuery said with concerned eyes. "Anyways Sir, where are you going with this?" He asked.

"I'm saying that being married or not being married won't change the fact that I love her, and she loves me, or how we treat each other," Roy replied, closing his eyes. "As long as she's always by my side, I am a happy, happy man. And I don't need a document that says that for me."

Silence followed, and after a few minutes, Havoc spoke up.

"That's a very interesting way of thinking," Havoc stated after carefully listening to his speech. "But what if this woman you're so crazy about doesn't believe in the same thing? What if she wants a ring, a dress, and a walk down the isle? It takes two, in a happy relationship you know."

"Oh, she believes the same thing," Roy stated knowingly. "She has no choice but to."

"How do you know?" Falman asked, obviously not catching on who this loved one is.

"I just do." Roy replied.

"Did she ever say?"

"No."

"Then how do you know?"

"I just do."

"Ah, you stubborn bastard," Havoc muttered, arms crossed. "You're just saying all this crap because you and First Lieutenant Hawkeye are forbidden to get married, aren't you?" Falman dropped his jaw when he heard Hawkeye.

Everyone looked at him. Roy smiled, but his eyes showed sadness. "Probably."

Just a short Royai story because I wanted to try writing one. Thank you for reading.
