A/N: I know Valentine's Day is tomorrow but I will be away so I decided to post this today. Hope you like it! HAPPY VAENTINE'S!!
The wind whipped through Sweeney's hair as he struggled across the garden outside. The wind almost knocked him over a couple of times but he regained his balance easily and continued forward.
Damn wind, Sweeney muttered to himself.
He finally pulled open the door and then slammed it shut. He pulled off his coat and hung it up on the coat rack Mrs. Lovett had placed near the door.
"How is it out there?" Mrs. Lovett asked smiling while handing Sweeney a cup of hot coffee.
"Cold," Sweeney said he gulped down some and let the burning sensation run through his body.
"Hope Toby's ok,"
Just then the bell on the top of the front door rang as a boy entered. He looked like he had just walked out of tornado. His black hair had stuck up in all directions and there was a wild look in his hazel eyes.
"Hello Toby," Mrs. Lovett said in a cheerful voice.
"So cold," Toby said sitting down, he took off his shoes and pulled off his wool socks Mrs. Lovett had gotten him. Sweeney looked at Toby's feet to see them a cherry red from the cold.
"Here," Mrs. Lovett said placing down a cup of coffee as Toby tried to get feeling back into his toes. Sweeney looked at Mrs. Lovett who hummed to herself as she went behind the bar counter.
What is she so damn happy about? Sweeney thought sitting down and taking out his razor and a cloth. It was probably the third time he had polished his razor today.
"Mrs. T," Mrs. Lovett said walking over with a glass of gin.
"Yes?" Sweeney asked in monotone.
"Do you know what day it is?"
Sweeney paused for a long moment then shrugged. He took the glass from Mrs. Lovett and took a sip.
"Its' Valentines Day!"
Sweeney choked on the gulp he took and hacked as he tried to clear his throat. Mrs. Lovett frowned.
"Mr. T? Are you alright?"
"I'm fine," Sweeney said in a raspy voice, "I'm fine,"
"What's that?" Toby piped as he moved onto his left foot.
"It's the most wonderful holiday of the year," Mrs. Lovett said in a dreamy voice, "There's love and happiness,"
"None of which Mr. Todd has," Toby muttered to himself.
"What was that dearie?"
"Nothing mum," Toby went back to thawing his foot.
Sweeney drained the rest of the glass in two gulps while Mrs. Lovett took a seat from across him and gave him a dreamy look. Sweeney started to get suspicious.
"What is it?" Sweeney asked.
"It's just a little tradition me family had back then, and it still is now," Mrs. Lovett said inching closer.
"Which is?"
"All then men must give the women one kiss,"
Sweeney felt like laughing and he did until he saw Mrs. Lovett's stern look.
"Oh, your serious?"
"Oh course Mr. T," Mrs. Lovett said letting the dreamy look take over one again, "It's a tradition in my family,"
"And?"
"Well I still want the tradition to stay alive,"
Sweeney looked at Toby who stopped rubbing his feet to look at what Sweeney's next move was.
"Let me guess, you want a kiss,"
Mrs. Lovett smile and inched a little closer to Sweeney. Sweeney look at the boy for help but Toby was just sitting there with the biggest grin Sweeney has ever seen.
"Alright,"
Sweeney moved closer and kissed Mrs. Lovett on the cheek. Toby tried not to laugh.
"That was lovely dearie," Mrs. Lovett said blushing, she knew that was all Sweeney was going to give.
"You welcome," Sweeney said quickly retreating before Mrs. Lovett kissed him.
Mrs. Lovett got up and walked over to Toby who immediately gave her a kiss on the cheek. After that was finished she went back to the kitchen. Sweeney looked at Toby who had a dreamy look on his face. Finally Sweeney decided to go upstairs and lie down.
In his room he layed flat on his back and made something clear. He would never understand Toby, Mrs. Lovett or Valentine's Day.
