Hey! So sorry for not posting anything in weeks, but school kinda got in the way :/
Here's a little thing that I wrote on a day I was feeling down (my logic: "I'm sad. Hey, let's make other people sad too!")
Brief explanation: I think Írimë´s mother-name, Lalwendë (or Lalwen for short), was not mere coincidence. As elven mothers have "insight into the characters and abilities of their children" (according to Tolkien Gateway), in my opinion, Írimë had a merry personality and laughed a lot (but that's just me). Regarding the fact that she went to Middle-earth, well, Tolkien did say she followed her brother Fingolfin, but whether she died or returned to Aman after the Dagor Bragollach (once more, taken from Tolkien Gateway), no one knows. So I just assume she died (I know, poor Írimë). Oh well, hope you enjoy it! :)
'Írimë? Írimë!'
Pain. So much pain. I feel it radiating from my stomach all the way to my toes, paralyzing me. We were ambushed; those creatures came out of nowhere.
Somebody is shaking me; I hear his voice, slightly muffled to my ears.
'Írimë! Selerinkë, please! Open your eyes!' It is Nolo. He came for me. I force my eyes to open, to see him one last time.
'Nolo.' I rasp weakly. He nods and holds my hand tightly, thick tears pouring from his eyes.
'I am here, selerinkë.' His voice is thick with emotion, and I realise he is struggling not to break into sobs. He knows as well as I do that only a miracle could save me. When his hand moves towards the spear pinning me to the ground, I stop it.
'Leave it. I am not going anywhere.' He laughs with me at my poor attempt at humour, stroking my hair.
'Laughing maiden indeed.' He gathers me in his lap as best as he can, as best as the black spear will allow. I feel my body getting lighter, my fëa slipping away from my body's grasp. Not that it matters much now; the wound does not even hurt anymore.
'Nolo?' I say, feeling completely childish.
'Yes, Írimë?' He smiles through the tears when he sees some of my old mischievousness returned to my eyes. Right before my fëa flies to the Halls of Mandos, I whisper softly:
'Last one arriving is a rotten egg.'
Lalwendë (Q) – Laughing Maiden
Nolo/Nolofinwë – Fingolfin
Selerinkë (Q)* – little sister
*Alright, I made completely made this word up. It's a combination of seler, which means sister in Quenya, and inkë, which means little. I have no idea whatsoever if it's correct or not, but let's just pretend it is :)
Thanks for reading! :D
