Disclaimer: These characters are not mine, not matter how much I yell and cry and scream and roll on the floor over it.
A/N: Just a short little drabble. Supposed to be bittersweet. Not sure if it is. Inspired by Robert Frost's Nothing Gold Can Stay. Check that poem out, it's one of my favs.
Nothing Gold Can Stay
They could all die tomorrow.
Tomorrow. Tomorrow was a frightening and yet coveted concept. She wanted nothing more than to live until tomorrow, but at the same time, who knew what horrors it would bring? What news of fractured families and mysterious disappearances? Everyone single one of them, everyone she loved, could be wiped out with two simple words and a flash of green. It was eerie, how simple something like murdering another human being could be. Still, she prayed that she would have a tomorrow. Just tomorrow.
But her friends did not seem bothered by this. They knew it did not do well to dwell on what could be instead of what was.
"Dance with me, Lily!" James cried, as her favorite Celestina Warbeck song came on the wireless.
"Always", she replied.
Lily laughed as her husband twirled her around, once again a love struck teenager. She tried not to think of evil dark lords, or the way they were all teasing Death. Death was vindictive. It did not take well to mockery.
No, Lily just watched as Sirius and Remus sang along, absolutely butchering the words to A Cauldron Full of Hot, Strong Love. She saw Peter, ever the outsider, shifting nervously in the corner. He had been so withdrawn lately. And she looked at James, the man whom she loved so completely that it was almost painful to be away from him. She smiled, because he was gazing back at her exactly the same way.
As Lily spun around the room, she realized these were the golden days you're supposed to tell your grandchildren about.
And yet, she knows, nothing gold can stay.
El Fin.
Review, and I shall love you forever!
