Chapter One: The Train
My eyes still stinging with the tears I had been holding back, I tried to focus on something else. We were moving faster and faster and the wind blew my hair into my face. I had found something else to fixate on. My hair had to be fixed before the sorting! Everything had to be perfect, everything had to be in order so I could-
"Uh, Rose?" my cousin Albus cut through the thoughts racing in my head.
"What?" I asked him abruptly, my nerves on edge.
He had a really funny look on his face. His lips curled in an attempted smile, but his dark eyebrows furrowed over his bright green eyes in concern. "Maybe, you should stop. Here, I'll close the window."
As I wondered why he was acting so strangely, I saw a small black girl sitting in the corner of the compartment trying to hide a smile. She looked mildly familiar, but I couldn't place her. My fists clenched instinctively in my humiliation, and I felt a twinge hard plastic digging in to my right palm. "oh, no." I thought and my heart raced to my throat as I touched my hair. What had been mildly messy was now a tangled disastrous ball of fluff. I cursed my curly hair, I had no idea how my mum could stand it!
"I'm going to go to the bathroom." I told Albus as I picked up my comb and scurried the door. Hopefully I could fix my mess with a bit of water, and no one would see me in the process.
On the way I tripped over my gigantic robe and dropped my comb. "Clumsy! Clumsy! I hope nobody saw me! I mentally berated myself. I hurried to get myself up and I looked for my comb.
"Looking for something troll?" a tall boy asked as he slithered out of his compartment. He had brown hair, a pointed nose, and worst of all… he had a green tie with black stripes. He was definitely not a first year, and he was definitely a Slytherin. I took an audible gulp, and my heart rate increased audibly. My father had told me about the Slytherins and none of it was good.
I nodded my head, it was all I seemed capable to do at that moment.
He smiled at me with horrible pointed teeth. "Then you've got to catch it troll-face. " and with that he threw the comb to one of his pals. And I ran into the room.
"Come on troll-hair!" one of them yelled at me as I tried to snatch the comb away.
Then the comb was thrown to another boy and I snatched it off his lap before he could grab it. "ha!" I yelled, and as I did I could tell I was looking into apologetic grey eyes of none other than Scorpius Malfoy.
"I hope you, Weasely, will now remember who is in charge of this school. Your family might be famous, but I run this school." The tall boy sneered at me, jeering me up against the closed door of the compartment. I could feel my ears start to burn and my temper rise clouding my judgment. I put my hand on the door handle.
"Then I'm not sure this school is up to my family's standards, seeing as a goblin runs the school." in that moment he froze dumbfounded and I used the opportunity to slide the door open and run to the girls lavatory. As I left I could tell I heard a snicker come from one of the boys in the compartment.
"SHUT UP! You prick!"
