Which are you?

When you see someone in need
do you past by on the other side of the road?
Do you take one look at the injured
and decide they are beyond help anyway?

Do you judge before you understand,
or do you make an attempt
to get to know the person first?
I ask you now, which are you?

Are you the Priest, who took one look
at the injured man on the side of the road
and passed by on the other side of the road
because you judged too soon?

Are you the Levite, who also took one look
at the injured man on the side of the road
and passed by on the other side of the road
because you couldn't be bothered?

Tell me now, if you please,
have you ever judged unfairly
that which you did not understand,
assuming it was beyond help?

Or, even worse, did you simply refuse
because you didn't have the time
or didn't want to be associated with them,
because they would "hurt your reputation"?

Which are you?
Are you the Samaritan, who, taking one look
at the man who was beaten, robbed, and left for dead,
stopped beside to help?

Did you do all you could do
to make the person feel better,
to make their day a bit easier?
Tell me again, which are you?

Everyone is guilty of judging, for it is a human flaw.
Just keep this small question in mind, let it influence
your life as you go about your business on this day...
Which are you?
