I don't own anything.

Clyrnin.

To wish is to be a fool. To dream is to be a fool. If these statements are true, then he is a fool, for his entire world seems to be a dream. And that's something he's not afraid to admit.

Reality mingles with fantasy in his tiny, cluttered laboratory, the feelings he has for Claire, his little bird, combining to create a parallel world, a Utopia, in other words. It's an ideal world; it's his escape from the crushing, destructive desolation that encompasses him when he sees her kiss that boy. You know, the one who isn't good enough for her, the one who doesn't really care about her - and yet he's the one she's with.

In this dream world, her eyes sparkle only when she seems him; only when he's there to make her happy, when they're together in the lab, will she be truly happy. It's his dream world where she loves him and only him. Here, she's his whole world and he can show her, god dammit, he can show her!

And then he slips back into reality, back to Morganville, and she's standing in front of him, only now she's wondering what that smile on his face is for. And yet he can't tell her, can't explain what he feels because she's not his here.

Not yet, anyway.

So he pretends as if nothing has happened and allows her to think of him as insane, as her best, insane, scientific friend, and at least that stops the crushing pain from overpowering him. He continues to imagine his Utopia world of him and Claire ruling the world together, a joint force against everything that life throws at them, and they're happy. Here, he's forced to be merely her friend of whom she thinks is insane.

He knows he's sane. One hundred percent confident is he in the fact that he is sane, as his unreadable eyes follow her around the lab, his ears listening to her chatter about things he wouldn't normally care about if it wasn't her telling him.

He knows he's sane.

Because how can a madman dream?

If enough people review this, I'll consider making this into a ClairexMyrnin drabble collection.

Don't fav/alert without reviewing, thanks.
