Title: Devil With Those Angel Eyes

Summary: Chris's musings as Wesker lies dead before him.

Warnings: Uhh, messed up fact because I haven't played Resident Evil One in a long time, swears, yaoi/mentorship/hero worship, slight angst, character "death" - for those who have not played it, etc.

Disclaimer: I own nothing. This inspiration from this comes from Coldplay's "Us Against The World."

Biting down on his bottom lip, Chris looked down at the blodied body that was sprawled across the floor. Part of him did not want to believe that his Captain had been the one to betray S.T.A.R.S., that he did not send them all to their deaths and was working for Umbrella Corporation all along. As he stared down at the body, the brunette marksman swallowed thickly and holstered his gun. He knew that Rebecca would find her way to the roof with Jill and Barry without him. Crouching down beside the blonde Captain, the brunette let his eyes roam up the blonde's body, pausing at the gaping hole in his body before he continued to look up, stopping at his face.

It was hard for him to believe that Captain Wesker had been a double agent for what had to be the most underhanded company on the face of the planet. He wanted to ask the blonde if there was any possibility that the cold-hearted man had felt regret when he hired him; did he even care that he was hiring someone that hated him at first but then came to respect him? Did Wesker want to quit with Umbrella and was blackmailed against it? Did he join the police force first and was swayed by the perks Umbrella offered him? Was he as coldhearted as he wanted everyone to believe?

Chris was not sure which was worse: to join Umbrella and then lead S.T.A.R.S. as a front or to have worked with the police force for so long that he became disillusioned with the human race that he had given up on his oath to protect and serve and replace it with the creation of creatures that infected and fed on the human race.

The worst part of it thought was the he never saw it coming; sure, Captain Wesker was an elusive man that could explain his way out of anything, but that did not mean anything out of the usual. As long as he had known the man, he had always been secretive. But Chris had genuinely believed that his Captain was a standup man with morals.

A soft smile graced the brunette's lips as he remembered the first punishment that the overbearing and authoritative man had given him; he was a rookie and still had an axe to grind against his superiors. Looking back, his new Captain seemed to recognize this and gave him all the tools with which to hang himself. And he had stupidly gone along, thinking that he had the upper hand and could pull one over on his new boss. The crafty blonde caught him in the act, though, reprimanding him before the rest of his team before setting his punishment as having the clean the S.T.A.R.S. office over the weekend to his approval. That was when the sharp blonde had shown his what a true leader was; that was when he had began earning his respect and trust.

Now, well now it was all gone. He had been played for a fool and was not sure it he even regretted it. After all, being played for a fool by Captain Albert Wesker meant that at least the blonde had seen something in him that was worthy of his attention.

Reaching over, Chris delicately removed the blonde's sunglasses, folding them carefully before setting them beside his beloved Captain that had betrayed him. "Goodbye, Captain," Chris murmured before carefully closing the blonde's eyelids over his bright blue eyes and standing up. AS he walked away, the marksman could not help but think that he truly was a fool for thinking that the blonde was as innocent as he looked when he was actually a devil with angel eyes.
