They lay on the lawn with their hands intertwined, staring up at the pitch black infinity that ran through the night sky like jolts of lightning through their fingertips. Small stars like kisses that rained upon themselves when they were locked together, mindlessly floating around each other as the two men softly whispered constellations of words to each other. They had never tried stargazing before. Magnus thought it would be quite boring, but Alec had convinced him that each star was a heart and each heart would help him to sparkle, and he was right. Fire sizzled in his heart as Alec lay beside him, and a jolt of lightning coursed through his soul and he tightned his fingers around the Shadowhunter's.
In his one life and all the lives that had breezed by him, he had never known a loved like this before.
"See that up there?" Alec asked him, using his free hand to point up to the sky at a cluster of stars that Magnus couldn't fathom into the image that they were clearly supposed to hold.
"Not really, darling. I don't think I'm suited for this. I just want to lay here for a while…" Magnus closed his eyes and allowed himself to think. He could not believe he was here. For so long he had allowed himself to believe that he was a damned creature that could never find redemption in the vast eternity that stretched before him dauntingly, but now here was a beautiful angel that loved him, cared for him, allowed him to love him as well.
"It really is a good story. That's Orion…" Alec trailed off. Magnus flipped over to lie next to him, parallel. He never let go of his hand. He never would let go of his hand. He would love him forever.
"I think, Alexander, that every love story is great. But the thing is…" he started, squeezing Alec's fingers, "I don't need stories. I don't need to hear of the love that other great men and women had for each other, because I now have found a great love myself." Alec blushed.
"I love you Alec," Magnus proclaimed. "I love you for all eternity. You will always live with me, because you are a huge part of me, the best part of me. I could never ask for anything else better, because I already have the best thing in the world." Magnus moved in closer to his boyfriend, close enough that if he were to let go of his hand he could trace each beautiful line on his face. But he refused to let go now, refused to let go ever, and rather moved in closer to curl into Alec.
"…I love you too, Magnus…" Alec said. But it was too late. Magnus had already fallen asleep, his subconscious mind already beginning to weave the stars together not into pictures, but into emotion too intense to ever hope to express.
