Sestina

The morning still was broken with a shot.
Bad news Miami once again awoke to.
And what fresh crime disturbed the parking lot?
The paramedics had no work to do.
It was just as Detective Tripp had thought:
The shooting's victim was quite thoroughly through.

Horatio and his CSIs pushed through
The camera crews all gunning for a shot
Of wealthy Mr. Snyder. He was thought
Killed for plans to leave a fortune to
A random winner who, with much ado,
Would at a party draw the lucky lot.

The CSIs taped off the parking lot
And then they search the crime scene through and through.
Some inadvertent cell phone pics would do--
With Calleigh's skill--to trace the fatal shot:
A car that fled the crime scene, going to
Parts unknown, or so the killer thought.

Not everything was as the cops first thought.
The vic's wife Tina, who'd sued to stop the lot
Had an airtight alibi. As to
The car: stolen. But they traced it through
Its tracking system. It was brushed with gun shot
Mist. Eric nodded. "This will do."

Ryan found himself with much to do,
Processing the car, deep in thought.
Unlikely, yes, but maybe worth a shot...
Could someone have been trying to fix the lot?
He did a little research, thought it through:
If one could fix the draw, and wanted to...

Natalia called an old acquaintance to
Run some checks the FBI could do.
The vic's assistant got a record through
Some crimes involving gambling and much thought.
He confessed the victim guessed a lot
Of the plot, and so he fired the shot.

Says Tina, "He was shot in order to
Protect his lot. It's all he'd ever do.
He never thought what I'd be going through."
