Understanding the language is half the battle. This was the thought in Hermione Granger's mind as she sat in the midst of the Durmstrang students.
She was visiting Victor Krum, who'd taken a liking to her a few months back at the Triwizard Tournament. The place where his school was located was actually quite beautiful, and Hermione had managed to pick up an understanding of most of their language within at least a week. However, she was not as good at forming sentences in the Slavic. She messed up verb tenses, but Victor was always quite understanding and would correct her when she messed up.
Still, she thought, it wasn't one of the easiest languages to learn - she'd find herself mixing certain words with English, French, or German, all of which she was fluent in. She'd then have to correct herself, which was both awkward, and quite a pain.
The second half of Hermione's battle of understanding, was the fact that the people she was surrounded with during her stay were quite rambunctious. Though they hadn't seemed that way at the tournament. To be fair, they were now on their home turf, so to speak. They seemed to think Hermione wasn't capable of much, and at first she'd enjoyed the pampering of not doing much, but now it was more of a nuisance. She'd told them countless times that she was perfectly capable of doing things on her own, but they seemed to think that it wasn't going to be as easy as for her she'd said, despite the countless times she had assured them.
Luckily for her, her trip was nearly over, only a week of left of the beautiful location and the constant army of Durmstrang students that surrounded her, to do practically everything for her.
It was going to be a long week.
