I know I really shouldn't be starting something new, but I found a great 100 themes Percabeth challenge and, since each of these are going to be drabbles, they shouldn't take me very long. Hopefully I'll be able to update about once a week.
Disclaimer: I don't own any characters.
It's three letters, yet the three letters are an entire life to Annabeth Chase. Her first thought is how unfair it all is - how it all rides on what she says, and how she can make or break everything. Then, she thinks she's lucky. After all, Percy's the one anxiously staring up at her with an expensive looking ring in his hand.
She has no doubt she loves him, and she has no doubt she wants to spend the rest of her life with him, but marriage… marriage is something permanent (at least, mostly) and though Annabeth's always wanted something permanent, every time she gets it, it's only a matter of time before it's gone.
She had thought Luke and Thalia were permanent, and they had been snatched from her like a toy from a young child. Percy - Percy was something she had thought was permanent too, and then he was taken away, and though she got him back, she doesn't think she can go through losing him ever again.
And does marriage mean children? Because, Annabeth's not so sure she wants them. She can't deny that having something so hers wouldn't be nice, but she doesn't think it's fair to bring children into a world filled with monsters trying to kill them. She figures they wouldn't be in too much danger because of their own powers, but with two powerful demigods who've saved the world as parents, anything could happen.
And then there's the enormity of the decision. It's almost overwhelming to look at the large picture - at the wedding and the house and the bills. It's a big commitment, and though Annabeth's been committed to Percy since day one, marriage seems different.
In actuality, it's just a label, and Annabeth hates labels more than anything. It's just a way to make a relationship official, and she doesn't think, after all they've gone through, Percy and her need it to validate anything.
But, she thinks, staring down at Percy's face, there really is only one answer she could even think of replying with.
"Yes."
