It is said that time heals all wounds, that with enough patience everything, every pain vanishes like the smoke above a candle. It is also said that vampires aren't supposed to feel guilt, to feel remorse about the fortunate ones they killed.

"Are you an angel?"

He can still see her smile, how happy she was as she allowed him entrance to her room. He can still taste her blood, the first taste of immortality in his then young life. And he can still feel the tears upon his face as he laid her to eternal rest.

"I have a present for you, my Angel."

The girl has her eyes. That is the only reason why he makes her death fast and painless. His sire isn't amused by that and leaves him alone, allows him to bring the girl back to her family.

Only later, after the gypsies filled his heart with a soul that doesn't deserve to share his memories of her, does he realize that he forgot to light a birthday candle for his sister.
