100 word drabble in honor of the late Stephen J Cannell.
To Stephen
It was a poker night like any other, except for one thing.
"Five card stud. Jokers are wild. The sky's the limit."
The cards were dealt. Everyone anted up.
Rick slowly revealed his hole card's face behind his thumb.
Ace of spades.
This was going to be a good hand.
Rick momentarily turned to the seat on his right and smiled.
Before anyone started to bet, he raised his beer up in a toast.
"To Stephen."
Everyone around the table did likewise.
"Stephen. Hear, hear."
The chair to Rick's right was empty now, but his presence will not be forgotten.
My fondest memory of watching TV shows created by Mr. Cannell is his signature end credit at the typewriter. Some of the ones I was able to catch were The A-Team, The Greatest American Hero, Hunter, Marker and Wiseguy.
