It was Aragorn's 150th birthday. He was very pale and skinny these days, but still, he was admired king. Legolas arrived at a birthday party as he always did. They had a wordless bond in their hearts, they were true brothers. Legolas felt pain once he saw that Aragorn was getting even worse. He always remembers the eager young Strider who would've given everything to see his city, Gondor to be wealthy again. During his time to rule, he did see it.
Legolas went directly to meet his brother and was so happy to see him smiling again. Legolas sat close to him and saw the same fire in his eyes that he saw when Aragorn was much younger. "Exactly two hours until I am 150 years old," Aragorn said with a weak voice. Legolas just smiled looking at Aragorn. The party finally started. Aragorn kept an open party, he had ruled so well that he had not many enemies and he wanted to see his people be happy and cheer.
When the party had almost ended Aragorn asked Legolas to get something to him from the city. He said he could not go out anymore. Legolas could not possibly deny a request of an old friend. Legolas went outside and took a horse and went down to the city. He went to grocery store. He picked up what Aragorn asked him to buy. It started raining and it was dark. Just as he went back to the street he saw one guardian walking around shouting something Legolas never wanted to hear. "King is dead! Our king is dead!". It felt like many daggers had been placed on his heart. He almost collapsed to ground devastated. Legolas dropped all he bought and took his horse and rode as fast as the horse could run.
It was still raining and very cold as Legolas came back to the palace. He ran in and directly to the bedroom of King. On his way, he saw crying people outside of the bedroom. Legolas opened the door and saw the pale corpse of his old friend. There lies a great king, his best friend, the greatest man he ever knew, Legolas thought. Tears fell down to his cheeks. He went to Aragorn's dead body and saw a note on the table. He took it and read it:
My dear Legolas
Since I am getting old and you will stay like that for much more fantastic years you will have, I need to ask you one thing: Don't get stuck to my death and live on. This world still needs you.
I am so happy that I had the chance to met you on my last days. I sent you to get something for me so you wouldn't have to see me die.
Promise, that you will remember me in my better days, the way I used to be over 80 years ago.
Always yours,
Aragorn
