You stand in front of the mirror;
Your hollow eyes, sunken back
And empty of any glimmer of life there ever was
Your empty stone face reveals nothing
Your reflection means nothing to anyone
But everything to you
Your eyes have been vacant of spark
And your slender body has been battered and beaten
For three long months
And when you look into the mirror you want so badly
To know that the face staring back at you is you
But you don't recognize her at all
Your aspiration to become thin has made you
Into a different person
One you don't recognize;
Not at all
The girl looking back at you is alien
You don't know her
The person you thought was there
Has vanished
You leave the mirror, and get into the shower
And you see what you've really done
You see the damage, the destruction
To which you've brought on yourself
You wish to take it back,
But you run and it comes
Because you can't stop yourself
You wish you could obstruct this behavior
But you can't
And you don't turn yourself in
You need help
But you don't want it
You know you can conquer the habit
But deep down you know you can't
And you look back at the mirror
And see what you've made of yourself
And you look for a long time
Falling into your pit of lonely non-belonging
And it's black.
