Jannet stopped dead in her tracks. The slight squeak her shoes made reverberated through the empty halls, causing a shiver to run up her spine and make her sick to her stomach. Not that the dead body she had just stepped in wouldn't do that to a normal person, but she was more worried about how this would look if anybody caught her, not about some dead inert matter. A loud bang resounded from down the hall, as if to answer her shoe's noise. She quickly turned around to catch a janitor coming around the corner.

'Shit!' she thought, just about vocalizing but catching herself. If she was implicated in any of this, it wouldn't look good for her review, only three days away. She had just enough time to turn and run past the body before the man got a good look at her face. The minute he saw the body on the ground and her running, he put two and two together and, just like every other semi-intelligent human would do, immediately implicated her as the culprit. Giving a shout, he dropped his mop and started running over to the man.

Jannet ventured a glance back and saw the janitor struggling with his cellphone case. She rounded a corner in the building without loosing much speed, thanks to her highschool athletics course, and soon burst out the door into the ally. With a quick glance in both directions she confirmed the coast was clear and sprinted to the left. Pools of dirty water splashed at her feet as she ran down the darkened ally, dodging piles of trash and other debris.

She just about reached the street when she saw red and blue flash infront of her. A police cruiser halted infront of the entrance to the ally, blocking of her escape route. Jannet skidded to a stop in time to avoid hitting the hood of the cruiser and turned around again. At the opposite end was another police car, and she could make out the silhouettes of two people advancing in her direction. It looks like the cops were a hell of a lot quicker to respond to this call than most others.

"Shit!" She yelled this time, looking frantically for a way out of this mess. The fire escapes? No, they where too high up for her to jump. One of the huge trashcans? No, too heavy for her to move in time, and she couldn't hide in them, they had already saw her. She could... no, infront of four sleepers? It wouldn't work! Dammit, there had to be a way out!

She had to do a double take when she saw the open door a few feet from her. She hadn't seen it when she was running, had she? No, she was sure it wasn't there... not that she had time to think about it. With a lunge, she jumped through the door and slammed it shut. She heard it lock, even though she didn't do anything to it. The sound of the sirens outside quickly died away.

The first thing the girl noticed was how dark it was in here. She couldn't even see the tip of her nose, let alone where she was. She took a few tentative steps back and reached out her hands. After a few seconds flailing, she finally connected with something solid. A wall. Now is she could just find a lightswitch, or a door, or something. The air inside the room was cold and thick and dry. Every time she tried breathing, it was like she was breathing in a pound of dust. The smell of old permiated everything, and everything she touched radiated cold. She took three careful steps forward, trying not to trip on anything, before she felt the wall turn at a 90 degree angle, and she could feel the threshold of a door.

Hope sparked up in her, and she slowly ran her hand down the dry wooden and cracked surface of the door, looking for a knob. Wait... wooden? Shouldn't the door be metal, like the one she came in from? She didn't feel like pondering this question right now, getting more and more freaked out by the suffocating darkness. She grabbed the handle and pushed the door open.
