AN: In honor of the month of love, I present to you a NaLu angst one shot! *isshot* I was listening to a Hmong song called "Wb Chaw Pw" by Hands and oh man...it's such a sad song. If you guys are interested in it, it's on YouTube but I'm not sure if there are English translations for the lyrics. Anyway, that song was on repeat as I wrote this one shot. I hope it's angsty enough.
"Gray-sama~ Wait for Juvia!"
Gray grumbled but he slowed down his pace for Juvia, who happily clung to his arm and leaned her head on his shoulder. They stopped when they saw Natsu walking towards them with a frown on his face. They exchanged glances before Gray spoke to him.
"Oh, Natsu. Where're you going?"
"Just for a walk."
"Are you all right, Natsu? Ever sinceā¦"Juvia lowered her eyes when Gray narrowed his eyes at her, "If you need anything, let Juvia know."
"Yeah, thanks."
Natsu watched as Juvia and Gray walked away. Juvia was giggling and Gray was obviously blushing. Natsu stuffed his hands in his pockets and continued on his way; would Lucy have liked going on dates, too?
Even Happy was on a date with Carla; they were going fishing by the river. Natsu was alone today and he hated it. He didn't realize how much Lucy had impacted his life until now.
He was supposed to be heading to the guild. He was supposed to be going on a mission. His feet brought him to Lucy's apartment.
The apartment sat untouched. Natsu's eyes scanned every detail in the room and he felt his heart trembling. He searched for her presence. He longed to see her.
But she was nowhere to be found.
Lucy's bed was neatly made and her clothes were hung in the closet. The necklace he bought for her birthday last month was sitting on top of the manuscript for her book. He walked over to the closet and touched her clothes. He remembered each and every time she wore a certain outfit. She looked good in anything she wore. His eyes watered as he recalled their memories together.
Natsu collapsed on Lucy's bed, tears streaming down his face. Lucy's scent filled his nostrils ans he cried harder. He really missed her.
He, Lucy, and Happy had gone on a mission together. It wasn't even an S rank mission but it somehow turned dangerous too quickly. Lucy sacrificed herself as a shield to protect Natsu from an ambush and the enemy had pierced a vital organ. Natsu unwillingly remembered the terror he felt when he held Lucy in his arms as she was dying.
"I have no regrets," she told him with a tender smile, "I love you, Natsu."
"Don't talk like that, Luce. We're going to get you back to the guild. We're going to go on more missions."
"Always so optimistic. I loved that about you, Natsu."
"Damn it, Luce, don't talk like that! I won't let you die!"
"I'm so sorry, Natsu. I'll always love you."
Natsu wanted to curse her out for leaving him. He wanted to yell at her for putting herself in harm's way. He wanted to tell her that he loved her over and over again. But now it was too late.
At the guild, things were different. Although life went on, something was obviously different. Things weren't so loud and boisterous anymore. It wasn't just Natsu who missed her; everyone missed Lucy and her cheerful attitude.
"I know you loved her, Natsu," Mirajane said, "I know she loved you even more."
Natsu trembled as he cried. There would be no more breaking in to Lucy's home. There would be no more sleeping in her bed. No more eating her cooking. No more lunch dates with her. He wouldn't hear her voice anymore. No more missions with her. He wouldn't see her anymore. He would never have the chance to tell her that he loved her.
She was gone and Natsu was left with nothing but a pile of regrets.
