It was a breezy fall morning when Gale stepped out of his luxurious home and off to work. Gale cherished the walk every morning even though he knew there were faster and more modern ways of transport. The leaves crunched beneath his feet as he kept walking along the cobblestone roads of District 2, momentarily waving and giving suggestive winks to the ladies. He finally stopped at a large grey building situated near the core of District 2, he reaches into his pocket, grabbing the key to the door out of his messenger bag. It's the District 2 local lumber factory, where they prided themselves on their slogan, "Buying Local Matters!". Being Vice-President means you make quite a decent amount. Gale walked over to his spacious office and sat in his large swivel chair. Looking on his desk he sees a picture of him and Katniss, They're both smiling, a rare for the duo. He always thought about going back but ever since those bombs had come down near Prim and Katniss, he knew she would never see him the same again and what about Prim? She wouldn't be lovey-dovey either. It was at these times he thought to himself how truly lonely he was. But he had a realization, I don't have to live like this, watch Prim and Katniss come back into my life. And it was then and there he decided he was going to be a true man and write back home to Katniss.
The minute he got of work, Gale raced home, momentarily bumping into the random stranger from time to time. He came to an abrupt halt on his doorstep and and pulled out his key. Out of breath, he ran up the stairs to his office and grabs a piece of paper and a pen. For a short period of time he sits there and thinks to himself what he's going to write, then he finds a start
Dear Katniss,
I can't believe I'm finally writing this letter. I miss you so much Katniss, I miss Prim as well. I know you'll never forgive me for that day but please hear me out,
Gale continued on and on, many sorries and then he told her about his life and finally when he was all done he signed:
I know you may never write back but I love you Catnip, Gale
He sealed the letter up in an envelope and wrote the address to the victors' home where she lived. Deciding he would mail it off in the morning on his way to work but finally he felt a sense he hadn't felt in a long time. Happiness.
Gale continued with his work rushing home to check his mailbox everyday, he never lost hope and there was never a day he wasn't excited to open the mailbox. It had been 3 months, since he had written the first letter and he had written many more in that time being, all of them so similar. It seemed as though Katniss would never reply and maybe it was the best. She belonged to Peeta and he had to settle for second best. But Gale had an urge to write a last letter to give a proper goodbye to his dear Catnip. When Gale got finished at work, he walked home solemnly, knowing there was no happiness when he got home, no reason to jog a bit to check the letterbox but for good measure Gale decided to check it. As he opened the letterbox, he saw a little envelope, pulling it out he saw a familiar swirly, cursive writing. Prim? Gale rushed in and sat down on his couch, slowly tearing at the envelope and pulling out the letter.
Dear Gale,
It's Prim, I will be in District 2 to give coverage on the upcoming speech of President Trau. I hope I will be able to take residence for 1 week at your house. If it should be a problem, phone me you know the number.
Prim
His heart swelled up and he felt like crying, Prim was finally coming back and everything had to be perfect just for her
