I have been wanting to write something like this for a while, and I just watched the Return of the King so I finally did it! I do believe this is the shortest piece of slight fluff/angst I have written! :D Anyway, please review and favorite! -IheartOakenshield193712

"Is there any chance of seeing my old ring again?" Bilbo asked, looking up at Frodo from the younger hobbit's shoulder. "The one I gave you?"

Frodo clenched his jaw and his eyes darkened. "I'm sorry, Uncle," he began, "I'm afraid I've lost it." He sighed and felt Bilbo slump against him.

"Oh, pity," the old hobbit said. "I... I would have liked to see him one last time..."

Frodo frowned. Was his uncle speaking of Sauron? "Uncle," he began, "why would you want to see him again?"

Old Bilbo sighed heavily and closed his eyes. "I only wanted him to know of my love for him," he whispered. "He was always so handsome and strong."

The brown-haired hobbit was confused. "See who, Uncle? Who are you talking about?" he asked as the carriage pressed on.

Bilbo sighed sadly. "That dwarf king from my story," he said softly. "The one from my adventure."

"Oh," Frodo said. "Why didn't you tell him you loved him?"

"My dear boy," Bilbo began with a hint of a tsk. "Haven't you read my story yet? The dwarf king that I helped reclaim Erebor. The one... I stole the Arkenstone from. He was gravely wounded in the Battle of Five Armies... but..." Bilbo sighed heavily again and shook his head. "I do wish I could have seen my Thorin again. I remember his dark blue eyes. There were some days on the journey I swore they were bright and happy... Before he died, he told me I was his friend, but I wish I could have told him I didn't want to be friends... but something more..."

"Uncle," Frodo cut in softly. "We're here."

"We're here, my hobbit..."
