Serenity. The word means calm, peaceful, to be in peace. Yet rarely does the spaceship named such embody this. But then, maybe she was never supposed to.
Serenity isn't the opposite of her name though, she doesn't embody chaos either, she just shelters it. One old ship, collecting broken people to put them back together again.
The stormy world inside her, that is often chaos; and it does threaten to make scrap metal out of her. Luckily, her broken people, her children, are also her carers – and they always make things shiny once more.
Her broken people. Her crew. An eclectic bunch who've made bonds of friendship, bones of love; as much for her sake as their own. From the Captain – with his earthy tones and soaring heart; a man who delights in the freedom of the sky, to the Mechanic – with her knowing fingers and gentle presence; a woman with such an unpollutable spirit, to the Enigma – with her crisscross words and a slow to heal rawness; a girl gaining a future as bright as her past is dark. With her children to guide her, Serenity will glide through the Black, and together they will help the 'Verse get closer to being real right and shiny.
Serenity. The ship means transport, a livelihood, home. She's just an old and battered Firefly; but maybe this is what she was supposed to be.
