Link grunted as he fell to the ground. Ganondorf had just killed him. Link had no fairies or potions... This was it. Link saw his life flash before his eyes…

"Where did I go wrong?" Link thought to himself.

-One week earlier-

"Hey, Malon!" Link shouted as he ran toward his friend in the middle of Hyrule field, "Wait up!"

Malon Shouted to her dad to stop the big, horse pulled wagon full of milk. Link jumped up on to the wagon beside Malon and dangled his legs over the edge.

"What have you been up to?" Link said to Malon.

"Not much. We've been working on the farm. That's just about it. What about you?" Malon replied.

"I'm still busy. People have been asking me to do a lot of things! Like this one guy said he saw some odd things going on in the graveyard! I get to go investigate. Do you want to come?"

Malon just sat there staring into Links eyes, fantasizing.

"Malon, you are the most beautiful girl I have ever known! Your blue eyes are the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen! Every time you speak with your wonderful southern accent, you make me want to sing! Marry me!" Exclaimed fantasy Link.

"Yes! Yes, of course!"

"Marvelous! But we must go now!" Explained fantasy Link.

"What? Why?" Malon asked.

"Because Dampé will be working tonight, and he would never let us in!" Real Link said, snapping Malon out of her fantasy.

"Oh… Right… Let me just stop at castle town for a few minutes first. I love to look around the shops." Malon said, disappointed that she wasn't marrying Link… Yet.

Link hopped off of the wagon and shortly after Malon and Talon arrived at Hyrule Castle Town. Malon rushed into one of the shops to find something that her Knight in shining armor might like. She knew she didn't have much time to find it so she only checked two shops before thinking, "Maybe he wants a mask!" She went into the mask shop and looked around a bit. There was nobody running the shop but she figured she would just leave some money on the counter for whatever she bought and be fine.

"Hehehe… Come to find a mask, have you?" A voice said from right behind Malon, making her jump. He held a strange purple and white mask, "I can guarantee you that the one who you love needs this more than anything. Please, take it."

"How much do you want?" Malon asked, taking the mask from the happy salesman.

"It's yours."

"Really? Thank you!"

"Who knows… Maybe by letting you have this mask for free, I've just saved a life."

"Well, my love life at any rate! Thank you!" Malon replied, smiling excitedly. She left the shop and then castle town, staring at the mask the whole time. She made her way to Kakariko village but stopped at the entrance to the graveyard. She felt compelled to try the mask on. She couldn't take it anymore! She had to try it on! What harm could come from her try it on? None! She pressed it to her face and tied the strap behind her head. Her senses were all enhanced immediately! She could hear, see, and smell a hundred times better! But then she heard something. She looked all around to see where the noise was coming from but there was no way anything that she saw could be making the noise. Footsteps. The longer she had the mask on, the louder the footsteps got. They sounded like footsteps on a stone floor, not on grass. She got so scared that she took off the mask and the footsteps stopped. She shook her head and thought it was just her mind messing her so she ran into the graveyard (even though she was terrified of it) to find Link.

"Link! Link, where are you?" Malon yelled into the empty graveyard. No answer. She went farther into the graveyard and jumped when Link popped out right in front of her.

"Hey! Where were you? You took forever to get here!" Link searched his belt for his magic pouch, which wasn't there, "And I left my bag in the village. Be right back!" Link ran out of the graveyard to get his pouch.

"Wait up!" Malon said to the shrinking figure, "Don't leave me out here alone!"
