I got this idea in English when our sub told us some stories from when he was in Iraq serving in the military. I immediately thought of Mustang.

Major Mustang and Major Hughes sat on the roof of the abandoned apartment, weapons at ready. Their job was to keep a look out for enemies and shoot when needed. But seeing as they had been there for hours with nothing to do, they had gotten complacent.

Startled at the sudden gunshots being fired at them, the two rolled behind the wall of the roof, and grabbed their rifles.

Mustang turned to their radio, trying to contact their commanding officer.

"That bastard turned off his radio!" he exclaimed when it didn't work.

At that moment, the desert finally saw some rain. Seething, Mustang sat down next to Hughes in the downpour, waiting for the shooting to stop.

Suddenly, the radio crackled to life.

"Hey, do you two need some ponchos?" their CO asked, oblivious to the gunshots in the background.

"PONCHOS? We're being SHOT AT and you're offering us some PONCHOS?" Mustang yelled into the radio, along with a choice few colored words for his CO.

"Hey Mustang, since you're dead weight now anyways, since it's raining, run out and distract the Ishbalans so we can shoot them," another officer, a Brigadier-General, ordered on the radio.

"HELL NO," Mustang shouted, again with some more colored words. And with that, he used his first bullet – on the radio.

The two sat in awkward silence for a few minutes, before Hughes spoke.

"I wanted a poncho..."

So yeah, this basically this is what happened to the sub, minus the "dead weight in the rain" comment. But they still asked him to cause a distraction.
