Chapter One! Please enjoy! This is the first chapter, so it is short. The chapters will get longer later.
Beatrice POV
"We could start a life together." I thought as I boarded the bus to school. The simple idea made me want to grin. It seemed great, after initiation we could be together forever. Today is the day of the Aptitude Test, which makes tomorrow the Choosing Ceremony. So really it isn't that far away.
"Aptitude test today," I said to my brother, Caleb. He only nodded, and I could tell he was nervous. I decided not to pester him about it. We watched more people get onto the already full bus, and when we got off, I saw Edward there, waiting for me.
I walked up to him and smiled. He smiled back.
"Hello," I said to him.
"Hello," he said back. Edward was a vampire, which is probably the craziest thing ever, and has a big family who is around him a lot. So any time that is just us is great.
Edward has been "15" for a while now. But since he met me he decided to "turn 16" so we can be in the same faction. We both are choosing Abnegation. It was his idea.
After my first few classes, I walked into lunch area, and found Edward. I sat down with him. Alice, his sister, was already taking her test. She decided to "turn 16" along with Edward. After a few minutes Edward's name was called.
"Good luck" I whispered to him. He smiled weakly and walked away. I poked around my food for a little, all alone. I wasn't very hungry anymore, and I noticed my hands were shaking and my palms were sweaty.
"Beatrice Prior" they called. I got up and walked into the room I was told to and sat down.
"Hello, my name is Tori," the women there said to me. "I will be giving you your aptitude test today." I nodded and smiled weakly. "I am going to give you a series of tests, and your faction will be determined by how you react to each situation. " I nod and she hands me a cup with a purple liquid. I drink it and immediately black out.
(A/N: I really don't want to write the whole aptitude test. So we are skipping to the part where she is told that she is Divergent.)
"Beatrice, your results were inconclusive," she says. "Typically, each stage of the simulation eliminates one or more of the factions, but in your case, only two have been ruled out."
I stare at her. "Two?" I ask. My throat is so tight it's hard to talk.
"Yes, two. Abnegation, Erudite, and Dauntless."
"So you have no idea what my aptitude is?"
"Yes and No. My conclusion," she says. "Is that you display equal aptitudes for Dauntless, Erudite, and Abnegation. People like this are called… Divergent." She takes a deep breath. "Beatrice, under no circumstances should you share this with anyone. Not even after the choosing ceremony. Divergence is very dangerous. Do you understand?"
"Okay." I get up, and feel unsteady.
"I recommend you go home and rest to process all of this."
"Okay," I say. "I'm going to go tell my brother where I'm going." By brother I meant Edward.
"I'll let him know." She said. Darn. Well I guess I'll just get going.
On the walk home, I realized something. I have a choice. Abnegation, Dauntless, Erudite. I can do whatever I choose.
