Maka woke up just as the alarm rang. As she yawned, she got out of bed and walked to the kitchen when she saw something that surprised her greatly.

Soul was at the stove, pouring pancake batter into a pan. He heard Maka walk in, turned to her and smiled.

"Why good morning, sleepyhead." He said as he continued to work on breakfast.

"Morning…" She mumbled as she hugged Soul and suddenly sneezed.

"You okay?" He asked worryingly. Maka nodded and sniffled. Soul put a hand to her forehead and frowned. "You're warm…you should stay home today and rest."

"No, I'll be fine! Let me go to school!" Maka was always the stubborn type. There was no way she'd miss school, not for the world. Soul shook his head and frowned.

"No! I'm going to stay home and take care of you! I don't want you to get worse." He got out a thermometer and put it in Maka's mouth. "Yep, you're staying home. You're 40 degrees!' He nodded. Maka sighed.

"Fine, but only because you're not gonna take no for an answer!" She grudgingly let him take her into her bedroom and made her warm and cozy, with tons of books to keep her company.

For the rest of the day, Soul listened to Maka's complaints and took care of her, even baking pumpkin pie for her. "Hey, Soul?" She mumbled as she started to eat a slice of pie.

"Hmm?"

Why are you going to so much effort for me? I'll be okay." She said. Soul smiled warmly at her and sat down beside her.

"Because you're my partner, that's why. I'll always look out for you, just like you'll always look out for me." He pulled his miester into a warm hug, which she returned.

"Soul?" She mumbled. "I love you."

"I love you too." For the rest of the day, she felt as warm as the sun, and slowly got better. She even managed to go to school the next day, which made her stressed as she missed out on work. She managed to get through it all though, and got back to her stubborn, short-tempered self.
