Title: Birth of the Tok'ra
Characters: Egeria, her first host (un-named here).
Category: Gen.
Rating: K.
Notes: I use the following conventions: Bold is a goa'uld or tok'ra speaking, ~ denote host/symbiote communications.
Egeria could not hold back the need to spawn for much longer. Spawning was the curse – and the gift – of a queen, a biological imperative that could not be denied. She had never done it before, but the memory of her mother, and her mother's mother and all those before her was there, in the primal heart of her code-of-life. All that long line of forebears would undoubtedly have though her insane for putting herself through such misery, but Egeria was not them. As the need washed through her again, she reached for her host – her treasure, her beloved. Egeria clung to that support until she could think again.
~Egeria,~ whispered through our bond. ~ Dear one, this cannot continue!~
Egeria could only repeat her mantra yet again. ~My spawn will become like my brethren. I cannot bring them forth when they can only add to the scourge that Ra made of the goa'uld, nor can I spawn then destroy my own children!~
It was a gordion knot that Egeria could not master and could not escape.
~Dear one…~ came the whisper. ~They will be your children. Can you not make them as different from Ra as you have become?~
A/N: This is a offshoot of another story I am planning, about Egeria's journey from being born goa'uld to founding the Tok'ra. It can stand alone for now; if I ever write and publish more, I'll come back and update this with a link.
