Retreating
She knew that he was dating Seven of Nine, and it was tearing her up inside. She had seen them together time and time again, holding hands and seemingly content in each other's presence. He was spending less time with her, but he still tried to talk to her, to spend time with her. She pulled away from him, made excuses not to meet him for dinner in the evenings to discuss work or do reports, and didn't talk to either of them unless work demanded of it.
She spent most of her on-duty time in her Ready Room or in Engineering helping B'Elanna, and most of her off-duty time in darkened quarters or on the Holodeck. She was hurting greatly, and many of the crew could see it. She retreated deeper inside herself, pushing everyone away. She refused any invitations for friendships, and rarely spoke to anyone outside of duty, and often hurried from the room when Seven or Chakotay entered it, unwilling to be spotted by them and pulled into a conversation with them. She wasn't the same person anymore.
When a member of the crew is injured on an away mission, she visits them in Sickbay, but before, she would have stayed and talked to them, and now, she would only go down to make sure that they will live, recover and be alright, talk for a few moments, and quickly depart. Yet, if it's Seven or Chakotay, she won't even drop by Sickbay anymore, barely even skimming the report the Doctor sends to her from Sickbay.
At night, she often wondered aimlessly around the ship, looking lost, distressed or upset. For the rare times she did manage to sleep, it was only after hours of crying, and often her sleep was ridden with nightmares and she soon wakes up screaming, crying, tangled in her sweat-soaked bedcovers.
She can't take anymore. It has to end, she can't take the pain any longer. There's medication in the database that can allow her to slip away quietly, to become peaceful. He would make a good Captain, and she does not doubt him. Her crew can learn to live without her and he will get them home.
A tear slips down her cheek as she scrawls a note for him and uses her medical override to acquire the medication, sitting down on the bed before she presses the hypospray to her neck and her eyes roll back in her head as she slumps to the floor, her heartbeat slowing and starting to fade.
