Anakin/Obi-Wan Confrontation
Part 3

I turned and ran. I didn't want to watch Anakin struggle hopelessly as the lava ate away his skin, devouring him alive as he was pulled under.
I ran and ran. I ran from the planet that had swallowed my friend. I ran from my memories of Anakin. I ran from everything.
I didn't know what to do. I had just killed my friend Anakin, my former padawan. But had I had a choice? Should I have just let him kill me, rather than fight him?
No, I guess I had done the right thing, if you could call killing someone right. But that didn't make it any easier to take.
I thought of the only person who could give me comfort at a time like this: Amidala. I quickly went to her, hoping she would understand and not be too mad that her husband was dead.
When I saw her, my voice came out in a whisper. "Anakin. Killed him."
Her face seemed to fill with sadness, which then changed to a look of resignation. "Yes," she said, "I knew it would have to happen sooner or later. I guess it's better that it's sooner." Knowing that she accepted Anakin's death made my grief and pain lessen a little bit.
"Yes, but I wish it didn't have to happen at all. You don't know the pain it gave me to kill him, watch him sink into that lava." I shuddered.
"But I know the pain of losing my husband. First to the dark side, then to death."
I sighed. "Listen, I've got to get to some deserted place, to hide out. The Emperor is still hunting down the Jedi Knights."
"Yes." She paused for a second. "Would Tatooine be a good place? If you were there, you could look after Luke as he grows up."
I smiled. "Yes, it sounds like the perfect place. Hardly anyone ever goes out to the Dune Sea."
"Obi-Wan," she said, just as I was preparing to leave. I looked up. "Be careful."
I smiled and hugged her. "I will."
"Goodbye, Obi-Wan. Be sure to watch out for Luke."
I said goodbye and left. I went back to my ship, and lifted off for Tatooine. The trip took a couple of hours. Upon arriving, I docked at Mos Eisley Spaceport. I bought enough supplies to last for a couple of weeks in the desert.
Then I headed out into the Dune Sea, searching for a suitable place to build a shelter. Of course, there was no suitable place in a desert, but I found the best place I could. I set up a temporary tent. The next day I would start building a permanent shelter.
Next I located Luke, living with his foster aunt and uncle on a moisture farm.
Living on such a desolate, backwater planet, I naturally didn't receive word for quite a while that Anakin Skywalker was in fact not dead. He had pulled himself out of that lava pit, a ruined man.
Half-eaten by lava, he had been put on machines that allowed him to live. These machines had become a part of him, and he had been given the name Darth Vader, a name that would later inspire fear in every member of the galaxy.
