15. Silence
Looking out at the sea, she stood quietly on the balcony watching the sun's slow crawl down to the horizon, her wavy hair billowing out behind her. I came and stood behind her, encircling my arms around her lithe waist and burying my face into her white nightgown- clad shoulder, inhaling the scent that was my Elizabeth. She smiled slightly, reaching down to intertwine her smooth fingers with my rough ones. We stayed there in that position, neither of us moving or saying anything, just enjoying the feel of the other and the stillness of the evening. After a moment, I slowly spun her around, resting my forehead on hers. I looked deep into her bright, brown eyes, watching her lovingly grin back at me.
I love you. I rubbed my nose against her cheek.
I know. She kissed my forehead, her lips lingering there for a moment before wrapping her arms around my shoulders, sighing contentedly. I love you, too.
We smiled and closed our eyes, the silence still embracing our conversation.
