An Unusual Twist to Well-known Classic

A new decision must be made. They could not follow this road any longer; for it went on eastward into the great shadow, but the Mountain now loomed upon their right, almost due south, and they must turn towards it. Yet still before it there stretched a wide region of fuming, barren, ash-ridden land. Sam and Frodo where tired. They hiked the whole day and the made them even more tired.

"Water, water!" muttered Sam. His mouth was dry and his tongue seemed think and swollen. Sam and Frodo now had only very little left, perhaps half a bottle and there was still a long way to go.

The hateful night passed slowly and reluctantly. Frodo couldn't recover over night the power of the ring was getting stronger and stronger all of time.

The other day started. Sam spoke in his ear, "Wake up, Master, time for another start". But right at the moment Frodo opened his eyes Sam recognized how bad Frodo was suffering.

"Mr. Frodo, we should rest longer. You look tired you need fresh water, more to eat and sleep"

Frodo smiled and responded exhaustedly, "Sam, oh Sam, we getting closer. It is not a long distance anymore. We just keep walking"

Sam packed up his things.

A second later Frodo started crying, "I can't manage it, Sam" he said. "It is such a weight to carry, such a weight".

"Master, let me carry it a bit for you" Sam immediately stopped talking. He knew right at this moment that this was not a good idea to say.

Frodo got angry and his pupils grew and looked wild. He yielded at Sam "Stand away! It is mine!"

Frodo came down after a while and explained, "Sam, you have to understand it is my burden and we are almost there".

The ash cleared and now at last they turned their faces to the Mountain. It was "The Mount Doom". It was within reach. The first time Frodo and Sam felt they could do it. After another day climbing like monkeys the reached the top of the place where they never wanted to be. "I am glad that you are here with me" said Frodo. "Here at the end of all the things".

"Now couldn't we just make last step. Let's go down the path" He meant the stairway down to the entrance. The entrances of Mount Doom, the hottest fire waits in there. But Frodo and Sam could go no further. Their last strength of mind and body was swiftly ebbing.

They turned into the entrance of the mountain came to the path. They walked down the ledge. Every step felt like a year passed. Every breath they took felt like the last one. They reached the end of the ledge and Sam who walked in Frodo's shadow said out loud to Frodo, "Man, next time put on deodorant when we go for a hike". Frodo turned around looked at Sam. Frodo tipped his head back in laughter and took a step backwards. As he stepped, there was a banana peel lying on the ground behind him. He slipped and fell down into the fire and with him the ring.

Everyone ended up being happy. Sam established his own business. It was the first renting a horse company in middle earth. Aragon and Gandalf married and lived together happily to their end.
