Castiel sits silent as a statue, watching the machine breathing for Dean.
He thinks about his orders. About his superiors and their massive egos in constant need of massaging.
Contrasts Heaven's proud denizens with this frail human, barely clinging to life and sanity, and he wonders.
How did this man, so full of doubt and self-loathing, manage to fight so hard with no faith to bolster him? How does Dean Winchester's soul still shine so bright?
Castiel wishes to be half as good an angel as Dean is a human; maybe then he could follow God's path instead of Zachariah's.
