hi, I just wanted to say that this is my first fan fiction and it's a work in progress. I'll be editing this chapter alot, and I only posted it to get a feel for how the process works. Also, I do not own death note or its characters. Just Onica Stryder ^_^
Onica Stryder is a promising detective specializing in criminal profiling. Her job is to interview suspects and match them to a criminals MO. Her passion though, is to broaden her understanding of people and their emotions; To weave inside the minds of both the brightest and the darkest-to understand them. She is originally from america, but moved to Japan to attend university. Liking it, she stayed and got a job on the local police task force. Her best friend is Todai Matsuda- as he was the least intimidating person on the force. Being an introverted mind herself, her achievements go largely unnoticed to many aside from her immediate superiors- and Matsuda, who regularly promotes her as a genius to anyone willing to listen.
~story start~
Onica sat silently, very still in her seat beside her friend Matsuda as the rest of the delegates argued over what to do about a new and alarming situation sweeping the nations. Criminals everywhere were dropping like flies under strange circumstances -heart attack.
"Investigating a series of heart attacks is pointless. I don't see what else we can learn." One man said.
" absolutely! If they had been shot of stabbed at least we'd have something to go on! " another agreed.
"If that's the case I guess we have no choice but to bring in L." another delegate stated firmly, after it was apparent that no other solution could be found. A hush fell over the room. It was the first time it had been quiet the whole meeting.
" Cheif, " Matsuda asked the older man -cheif yagami. "What's this L their talking about?" Cheif yagami was an older man in his mind to late 50s. He was slightly out of shape with a moderate amount of grey in his still thick slicked back hair, with serious brown eyes framed by thick square reading glasses. He represented us-and the rest of the Japanese police force, and was generally well respected.
" are you serious? " Onica asked incredulously. Matsuda rubbed his head and have her a guilty half smile.
"Right, I forgot it's your first time at one of these conferences...we don't know L's true identity, or even what he looks like, but he's managed to solve every case he's ever taken- some of the greatest mysteries around the world. He hides in the shadows but he's the best of the best, and our trump card..." Cheif yagami explained seriously. Matsuda and Onica weren't the only ones listening to his description of L; others had started to listen in as well.
" but I hear this L is extremely arrogant, and only takes cases he's personally interested in! " one delegate voiced his concern angrily.
"That's right! Besides, we don't even know how to contact him!" Another added sounding indignant. an unexpected authoritative voice from the entrance suddenly spoke up, cutting off the train of conversation.
" L is already on the move... " for a moment the only sound in the room was the sound of footsteps as a mysterious man-the one who had spoken out-walked to the front of the conference room. "Gentlemen, L has already begun his investigation into this matter." He stated matter of factly.
" Watari. " cheif yagami told Matsuda before he could ask who the man was. "That man is the only one who can contact L. no one knows who he really is either." Matsuda's eyes widened as he looked back to the heavily disguised man.
" please be quiet, L would now like to address the delegates. " the man called Watari ordered.
"Greetings to all of you at the ICPO...I, am L." Onica looked up from her paperwork sharply, moving her deep chestnut hair out of her face and tucking one long lock behind her ear, focussing in on the mysterious man in the trench coat and fidora who had placed a nondescript looking lap top on the front desk with the letter L emboldened in cloister black on the screen. The voice that came through the speaker was distorted heavily by a computer. Onica narrowed her eyes skeptically. L was the worlds undisputed best detective, followed closely by Eraldo Coil and the French Denauve. She followed their work closely- they were sort of her heroes...and now he was here -well- as "here" as L gets. She almost thought it was too good to be true, but then, it was exactly the kind of case L would take.
"No way..." She said in awe and a little disbelief.
"The difficulty of this case lies in its unprecedented scope. Make no mistake, were witnessing an atrocious act of mass murder, one that is unforgivable. This case cannot be solved without the full cooperation of the ICPO- that is, all of its organizations around the world...You need to decide here, to give us your full cooperation. Also- I require additional support from Japan's national police agency."
" why Japan in particular? " cheif yagami asked, alarmed.
"Whether the culprit is a individual or a large organization, we can be sure they're Japanese- or at least in Japan." L answered simply. Without realizing it Onica's thumb made its way to her mouth and she found herself biting and tearing strips off her fingernail tips as she listened. It was a habit she had had for as long as she could remember- she didn't even really realize she was doing it until her fingers were bleeding and raw.
" what's this based on? " really, with criminals dropping all over the world, how could he pick out Japan as the culprits place of origin?
"Why Japan, you ask?...I think I'll be able to provide proof after I directly confront the culprit." L said confidently. Onica felt like her heart would explode from anxiety- L vs arguably the most inexplicable threat the force has ever faced? This could be the most exciting case of her lifetime! Her chest felt tight with a perverse excitement.
"A direct confrontation?" Yagami said, obviously wondering how he was going to pull that off.
" at any rate, " L said finally, directing the conversation back to the point." I'd like to set up headquarters in Japan."
This...this was an opportunity of a lifetime, and for the first time in a long time Onica couldn't wait for work in the morning.
well I hope you liked the introductory chapter of my death note fic! I work a lot and writing is more of a hobby to me than anything, so updates will depend on views and feedback. If I don't feel !ike anyone's reading of enjoying it, I won't continue. I have some good ideas on where to go with it in following the series though.
Thanks for reading! (Editing for this chapter is finished as of 8\12\17)
