This is a coffee shop AU I think...
Hermione Granger sat in the coffee, gently sipping at her cappuccino. After a long day in the lab, she was ready to go home. Unfortunately for her, she had familial obligations, so she made a stop for caffeine and personal time.
She sat in a corner, watching people walk in and out, chatting on their cellphones, sipping out of their to-go cups. Though a man with a head of grey hair walled in and Hermione shrank back. She wished she could hide. Instead she lifted her mug, burning though it still was, and tried to use it to block her face.
"You're in my spot, Granger," came the rugged, baritone voice a few minutes later.
She groaned and set the mug down with a distinct, yet gentle slam. "There no name on it, Slytherin. Go away."
"I don't think so. I enjoy my coffee here everyday."
He set his mug down and pulled out the chair across from her.
"I don't remember inviting you to sit down," she said with disdain.
"I don't remember caring about any of the insignificant babble that comes out of your mouth."
"At least what I have to say is of benefit to others, not for the sake of milking sick people for all the money they have."
"Oh yes, your research in what? Neogenesis? Hasn't that been proven to be a flop?"
"No actually. We've successfully managed to get rats to regenerate tissue. We're working on getting it to work with humans. Besides it's better than, what did you call it? Surge Sursus? We don't need another pill for erectile dysfunction."
"At least I'm succeeding in my field. You're far too ambitious, Granger. You'll never succeed."
The temptation to throw her still ever-so-slightly scalding coffee in his face was growing stronger. Instead, she got up, grabbing her purse. "I am and always will be the optimist. The hoper of far-flung hopes and the dreamer of improbable dreams. And one day, you will see my work and I'll be widely known and your stupid erection pill will be long forgotten."
With that she walked out of the coffee shop, leaving her former school rival behind.
A/N: This is written for The Mystery Competition. For this round I needed to write about Hermione Granger and Salazar Slytherin being enemies. I also had to use the word neogenesis.
Drabble Club: "I am and always will be the optimist. The hoper of far-flung hopes and the dreamer of improbable dreams." From Doctor Who
