She felt lost and alone.
No matter that she was surrounded by friends and a fire keeping them warm.
Closing her eyes, she tried to stop the alarming need to cry. It had only been a few days since Rumido went missing.
Gods, did she wish for him to appear before her and hold her tight.
"I'll never leave you, I promise you." He whispered against her ear just before sealing her lips with his. She immediately melted against him, already lost within his body.
"You promise?" She half whispered, half sobbed.
Already losing her mother and pretty much her father as well, Takiko couldn't handle losing anything more. Within only a few months of being in this new world, Rumido had become her whole entire world. If he disappeared, she would shatter into shards as her heart wept in pain and anguish.
"You broke your promise to me." Takiko wiped away stray tears with a shaky hand and took a deep, shallow breath.
Silently she drew from her sleeping mat, making sure not to stir any of the others and headed for the small lake they decided to camp nearby.
It was a beautiful night. Stars smiled down upon her, keeping her and the moon company. With a heavy sigh, she sat beneath a willowing willow tree and closed her eyes. "I must be a fool," Takiko gave a half hearted laugh at the fact that not only was she all alone and miserable, but she also was chatting to herself. "Yeah. That's me, the common idiot."
"I would take Tomite for the idiot not you. Unless I'm not aware of something," The rich timber voice had mirth in it and Takiko's eyes burst open. "But I still vote the village idiot Tomite. No matter what you say or do."
Her mind twirled in circles.
"You-you're here!" She exclaimed in surprise. But how? They'd said he ran right into the enemy lines. Captured and tortured, they mentioned. Her eyes watered up as her arms of their own free will twisted around his neck and hugged him close to her. "You were captured. They said it!"
"Who?" Rumido smiled when he felt her small frame crush against his much larger one.
"Villagers. Guards. They all said it."
"They were lied to. Make you think I was caught and it was surrendering time."
Takiko shook her head. "I'm just glad you're safe."
"You as well," He murmured and gave her a thorough kiss that warmed her entire body. "I was worried though I knew the others wouldn't all you into harm's way. Well…" Ticking his head to the side, he laughed "maybe Tomite, unintentionally."
She playfully slapped his chest. "Stop picking on him. You're going to give him a complex."
"Like you guys haven't already?" They heard Tomite's voice from behind, causing both to turn and find him eyeing their embrace disapprovingly. "You had us worried, man."
"Sorry." Rumido replied tersely, though Takiko and Tomite both knew it to be sincere.
Tomite shrugged, "Just don't do it again. I hate seeing Takiko transform into a crybaby."
"Hey!" Takiko went to teach him who the crybaby was when she felt Rumido pulling her back into him.
"Later."
Pursing her lips, Takiko nodded. "Promise?"
Rumido laughed and kissed her. "I'll even help."
"Deal."
