It had been a quiet evening.
Almost boring in fact.
Inuyasha sneered and shook his head at the people, drinking, even Miroku was doing it! Though, upon further reflection, Inuyasha didn't find that too far fetched.
Kagome was with Kaede, picking some medicinal flower that was easier to spot in the dark? Sounded dumb to him.
A few hours later and Inuyasha had succumbed to Miroku's insistence.
Even later still, and Inuyasha was walking outside, though he found himself swaying frequently. He felt his mind fog over, it was actually fairly pleasant.
He stopped by the river and stared. Almost losing his balance, he put his hand on the tree next to him for stability.
He didn't know how long he had been standing there, but felt jolted when he heard his name called. He turned his head, not trusting his body to move and saw Kagome.
"What are you doing out here?" She asked.
"I..." He looked back at the water. "Huh... I don't know."
"You don't know? What's with you?" She walked closer. "That smell... Are you drunk?" She accused.
Inuyasha chuckled softly. "Life is a funny thing, you know?"
"Huh?" She looked at him weird. "You should probably go to bed..."
"Hear me out, I promise I'm not as out of it as I seem."
She didn't believe that for a second. "Alright... How is life funny?" She sat on the grass next to him.
"So many things happen. You have memories of so much, but you can never go back. You will never experience the same thing again. Never. I was just... I was thinking about...Everything that happened."
Kagome didn't say anything, urging him to continue.
"I fell so hard for Kikyo and then... We were... That damn Naraku came along and played the perfect lie." He plopped down effortlessly.
Kagome frowned. Was Inuyasha sad?
"I was so betrayed when I was shot with that arrow. How symbolic I was hit in the chest, because I felt my heart stop."
"Inuyasha..."
"And when I wake up, what felt like a few minutes, was years and Kikyo died that same day and... She died. And it's Naraku's fault and I just... I just want..."
Kagome put a hand on his shoulder, reassuring. She had feelings for him, yes, but he was pouring his heart out here. He was drunk and sad and missing his first love. Kagome could understand that at least, right now, he needed a friend to listen.
"I just want everything to go back to the way it was!" His voice cracked.
Was he crying?
"I want to go back and I want for things to be different and I want... I want to use the jewel and and protect her and for everything to be different..."
He was crying. Tears were pouring down his face. Kagome didn't know what to do.
"I want to kill Naraku!" He cried.
They stayed like that for a while in silence, only Inuyasha's sniffling and the river rushing as noise. After a few more sobs, Inuyasha rubbed at his face and set his shoulders.
"But also... I enjoyed the time I've spent with you guys. If I were able to go back right now, I would miss all of you. So, I guess I'm being a crybaby..."
Kagome smiled, albeit wearily. "I would miss you too."
Inuyasha smiled, softly, eyes red.
"I'm gonna get some shut-eye. I feel sick."
Kagome giggled. "Okay. I'll help you up."
He chuckled, doubting her strength, but allowing her to help him anyway.
"You ever find that flower or whatever?" He asked as they started back.
"Yup. Oh, and Inuyasha?"
"Hm?" He rubbed the back of his neck, feeling worn.
"I won't tell anyone what you said tonight, okay?"
"I'm sure the other's would be too happy to hear I'd miss them... But yeah, thanks."
End.
((Haha... I was rewatching Inuyasha and yeah. I'm still on Season one and wrote this in the span of one episode. So there you go.))
